  1.              A NUN IN BANGLADESH

  3.   An Irish nun is visiting Bangladesh, staying at a
  4. Christian hostel in Dacca. On her second evening in the
  5. city, she steps outside for a breath of air and finds an
  6. emaciated baby deserted on the doorstep. She takes the baby
  7. in,feeds it,doctors it, bathes it, and then goes out
  8. searching for the mother, who is nowhere to be found.
  9.   The next morning the nun finds a second starving baby lying
  10. in the street in front of the hostel. So she takes the
  11. second baby in.  Then she goes off to the local police
  12. station to report the missing babies and to seek advice.
  13.   The advice is to put the babies back in the street or,
  14. the police officer says, you will find four more babies
  15. tomorrow.
  16.   "What on earth am I to do?" the nun says later in the
  17. day. "Am I to put them out to starve?"
