- computer's memory, the status line shows 0 words.
-
-
- ABOUT THE WORD LISTS:
- Each word list can have up to 100 words and related clues.
- Word lists can be combined to place up to 80 words in each
- puzzle. Every word list may be reused in new puzzles. This
- allows the user to review previously learned vocabulary too.
- All files created by CROSSWORD POWER may be copied and erased
- using the normal DOS commands.
-
-
- ABOUT THE PUZZLE WORDS (ANSWERS):
- Words may be up to 18 characters long. Any character except the
- space, comma, asterisk *, double quote ", vertical bar |, and
- number sign # can be used in a puzzle word. Even numbers can be
- used to create math puzzles.
-
-
- ABOUT THE CLUES (DEFINITIONS):
- Each clue can be up to 100 characters long. Long clues are
- automatically divided if necessary. Any character except the
- double quote " and comma can be used in a clue.

- displayed puzzle. Up to 80 words can be placed in each
-
-
- CROSSWORD POWER Page 6
-
- puzzle. After selecting, an additional word list will be read
- from the diskette. CROSSWORD POWER will attempt to fit the
- additional words into the current puzzle. The additional
- words will be displayed as they are inserted into the puzzle.
- Duplicate words will not be entered into the puzzle. This
- selection may be repeated to add words from additional word
- lists. Pressing the Escape key while the wordlist names are
- displayed will remove the second wordlist.
-
-
- MANIPULATING THE WORDLIST:
- Words and clues can be automatically changed to upper and
- lower case letters, be sorted by length, alphabetized, and
- randomized.
-
- The F1 function key can be pressed to provide more information
- about editing the puzzle words and clues. Alternate-F1 displays
- foreign language codes, Shift-F1 displays math symbols, Control-
- F1 displays Greek characters when editing.
-
-
- ABOUT WORD AND CLUE FORMATTING:
- Puzzle words can be changed back and forth between capital and
- lower case letters. It is easier to work with all capital
- letters. However, sometimes lower case letters are necessary.
- For example, in chemistry, CO means Carbon Monoxide and Co means
- Cobalt. This program treats capital letters and lower case
- letters as two different letters. This means that words will not
- intersect at a common letter if one is a capital letter and the
- other is lower case letter.
-
-
- ABOUT SORTING, ALPHABETIZING, AND RANDOMIZING WORD ORDER:
- The word list order is used to determine which words are placed
- in a puzzle first. Changing the order of the words allows
- different puzzles to be created.
-
-
- HINTS:
- Placing the longest words into a puzzle first does not guarantee
- that more total words will be placed into a puzzle.
-
- Each time a word list is randomized, the order of the puzzle
- words and clues is changed.
-
- Different puzzles can be used by teachers to stress the same
- vocabulary words but wanting to give students different puzzles.
- The different puzzles allow verbal interaction to learn the
- puzzle words and clues.

- puzzle can be graphically displayed. The displayed puzzle may be
- screen captured or saved as a PCX graphics and imported into most
- desk top publishing and some word processing programs. The
- extension .PCX is used for PCX graphic filenames.
-
- ASCII FILE NAMING DETAILS:
- If a puzzle is saved as an ASCII file, the following pattern is
- used to name the file:
-
- The first part of the file name uses the same name as the word
- list. The extension part (the three letters after the period)
- varies depending on the whether the puzzle is the teacher or
- student copy. The extension .PZT is the teacher copy of the
- puzzle, .PZS is the student copy of the puzzle, and .PZC is
- the extension used for the clues.
-
- The original word lists use the extension .WL Word list files
- are saved as ASCII files to make it easier to check spelling.
- If you use the spell checker of your word processor, and your
- words are changed, make sure to save the word list file in
- ASCII format. Many word processors use special formatting
- codes when files are saved the regular way. Saving of the file
- in ASCII format prevents saving of the formatting codes.
-
- VOCABULARY POWER, our companion product also varies the extension.
- The first letter of the extension will always be V (for VOCABULARY).
- The last letter will either be a S for STUDENT or T for TEACHER.
- The second letter uses the following pattern Wordsearch = W,
- Cryptolist = C, Juggle word = J, Multiple choice quiz = M,
- and matching Quiz = Q.
