-
-
-
- If you're serious about landing a new job, then read on. The
- following sections provide critical information that is VITAL to
- your success. Use this information wisely and you'll be a serious
- contender in any job interview.
-
-
-
- * MAY THE BEST CANDIDATE LOSE? *

-
- Fantastic! Your lengthy job search finally turned up an inter-
- view. All that hard work has paid off. Simply answer a few ques-
- tions and the job is yours. Right?
-
-
- Interview Performance is Everything
- ___________________________________
-
- Regardless of the time you invest in your job hunt, interviewers
- will base their hiring decision on your INTERVIEW PERFORMANCE. If
- you succeed with this performance, your reward will be a new job
- that can improve the quality of your life. If you don't succeed,
- you've just wiped out months of hard work and perhaps experienced
- an indefinite setback. Serious job hunters appreciate the
- significance of the interviewing process. THE INTERVIEW IS
- CLEARLY THE MOST DECISIVE PART OF YOUR JOB HUNTING CAMPAIGN.
-
-
- The Interview Process
- _____________________
-
- To help you understand the interview process, let's first clear
- up a common misconception: Outstanding qualifications rarely
- guarantee employment. In reality, job qualifications land inter-
- views, but INTERVIEWING SKILLS LAND JOBS. The employer will hire
- the candidate who is PERCEIVED as the best person for the job.
- More often than not, the person chosen is NOT the "most
- qualified" candidate. The reason is simple: Busy employers use a
- pre-screening process to select only those applicants who meet
- specific hiring requirements. As a result, everyone who enters
- the interview is "qualified," and thereby, has a reasonable
- chance of success.
-
-
-
- You're Hired! 7
- _________________________________________________________________
-
-
-
- Remember that the interviewer doesn't know you, doesn't know your
- potential capabilities, and can't read your mind. The interviewer
- is forced to base the hiring decision on your interview
- performance. If you stumble over answers or answer questions
- inappropriately, your fate is sealed.
-
- Now, if you have an impressive background, but your interviewing
- skills are weak, you may not get the job you deserve. A mediocre
- candidate who has strong interviewing skills can take a great job
- away from you. If, on the other hand, your competitors have more
- education or experience than you, think positive. With
- preparation, you can improve your interviewing skills and give
- yourself a distinct advantage. In either case, interview training
- will significantly increase your chances of getting hired.
-
-
- Preparing for the Interview
- ___________________________
-
- So how can you effectively prepare for an interview? After all,
- you don't know what to expect. The answer is easier than you
- might think.
-
- Contrary to popular belief, job interviews are, in fact, very
- predictable. The interviewer simply wants to learn more about
- you; and who knows more about you, than you? So, many of the
- questions you will face are non-threatening and easy to answer.
-
- There are, of course, challenging questions that can wreak havoc
- with the unprepared candidate. Fortunately, only a small number
- of these questions are relevant. Because the possibilities are
- limited, the questions are actually predictable. Sure, there are
- minor variations, but if you prepare responses to the general
- questions, you'll have no problem managing the variations. By
- preparing and practicing in advance, you can deliver polished
- answers to difficult questions. In doing so, you will impress the
- interviewer(s) with your confidence and professionalism. Consider
- the advantage you will have over other interview candidates.
-
-
- Rehearse the Script to Get the Role
- ___________________________________
-
- You can think of the job interview as an acting performance. You
- are the actor or actress, and the questions and answers are the
- script. With the help of an effective interview training program,
- you can rehearse the script in advance. Getting hired depends
- almost entirely on how well you perform. If you know your lines,
- perfect your delivery, and dress the part, you'll get the job.
-
-
-
- You're Hired! 8
- _________________________________________________________________
-
-
-
- This manual presents a proven interview training strategy unlike
- any other approach. This system provides lifelike interviewing
- experience to prepare you for the most difficult of interviews.
- With it, you will increase your confidence, reduce interview
- stress, and quickly land the job and salary you deserve. Without
- it, you will leave the outcome of your job hunt to chance. By
- preparing to interview, you prepare for success.
-
-
-
- * YOUR SECRET WEAPON *
-
-
- Practice Makes Perfect
- ______________________
-
- In today's competitive job market, interview success requires
- careful preparation. You are certain to face rivalry from other
- determined candidates. Many of your opponents will have studied
- interview strategies found in books. They represent a serious
- threat to your success.
-
- While reading can provide knowledge, it is NOT a substitute for
- real-life interview experience. After all, did you learn to drive
- a car by reading a book? Of course not, you learned by
- practicing. Successful interviewing, like driving, requires
- practice. The more you practice, the better you get.
-
-
- Practice Made Easy
- __________________
-
- "You're Hired!" is a computer-based job interview simulator that
- gives you the practical training needed to beat the competition.
- It is your "Secret Weapon," a weapon that cannot be found in any
- book. With "You're Hired!," you'll learn to answer difficult
- questions AND you'll get the practice you need to perfect your
- responses. This balanced combination of knowledge and experience
- is the ultimate success formula.
-
- The simulator in "You're Hired!" will quickly show just how
- awkward and stressful an interview can become. When faced with a
- difficult question, you have just seconds to prepare and begin
- delivering an acceptable response. Any difficulties that you
- encounter will instantly elevate your stress levels. As stress
- increases, performance decreases, which causes more stress. This
- perilous cycle is the sole cause of many rejection letters. One
- poorly answered question can leave a lasting impression.

-
- Reducing Interview Stress
- _________________________
-
- To combat interview stress, you must prepare in advance. If you
- anticipate the difficult questions, there will be no surprises.
- If you prepare solid answers to these questions, you will always
- respond appropriately. And finally, if you practice your answers
- in a realistic simulated interview, you will project a confident
- and professional image.
-
- To further improve your effectiveness, job hunting experts
- recommend that you record your voice while practicing your
- answers. Recording and listening to your voice is an excellent
- training technique, although it can be awkward and inconvenient.
- As a result, few people take advantage of this strategy.
-
- Again, "You're Hired!" gives you a competitive edge. Simply use
- the power of your personal computer to enhance the verbal
- feedback capabilities of the recorder. "You're Hired!" will ask
- you challenging questions and record elapsed time as you verbally
- respond. Professional advice is included with each question and
- you can attach your own reminder notes.
-
- Evaluating your voice in a simulated interview has never been
- easier or more effective. This efficient system eliminates
- distractions so you can focus on improving your delivery.
-
-
- Benefits to You
- _______________
-
- "You're Hired!" will give you a distinct advantage over other
- interview candidates. With it, you will prepare effective answers
- and practice turning difficult questions to your advantage. The
- lifelike interview experience obtained by using this powerful
- simulator will help you to:
-
- * Deliver effective responses for maximum effect
- * Feel, look, and act confident
- * Eliminate nervous behaviors and avoid embarrassing mistakes
- * Put an end to your job hunt
- * Land the job and salary you deserve

- * HOW TO SUCCEED *
-
-
- The Best Approach
- _________________
-
- The key to effective interview training is realism. The closer
- your training resembles real-life interviewing, the better your
- chances of success. Creating this lifelike simulation is easy
- with "You're Hired!." Simply picture yourself sitting in an
- actual interview, face-to-face with an interviewer. As your
- screen displays each question, begin speaking within a couple
- seconds. Once you've completed your answer, tap a key and the
- computer will ask the next question.
-
- You may be tempted to browse through the questions in "You're
- Hired!" and mentally prepare your answers. This approach
- certainly requires less effort, but it is also much less
- effective. Speak aloud, as though you are talking to a
- prospective employer. Using your voice is much more difficult
- than simply imagining what to say. By practicing with your voice,
- you will learn to deliver more concise and effective responses.
-
- To impress interviewers, you must focus on more than the content
- of your answers. You also must evaluate how you sound and how you
- look. "You're Hired!" will help you to individually isolate and
- assess each of these areas.
-
- The following three-step training strategy outlines the ideal ap-
- proach:
-
- STEP TACTIC EQUIPMENT USED
- ____ _____________________________ __________________________
-
- 1) Prepare answers and practice Computer
- 2) Practice with verbal feedback Computer, tape recorder
- 3) Practice with visual feedback Printed questions, mirror
- (Optional: video camera)
-
- For best results, continue practicing at each level until you are
- comfortable with your performance. You must, for example, become
- proficient at step one before advancing to step two. Rushing this
- process will decrease the effectiveness of your training.

- The Job is Yours
- ________________
-
- Why learn from actual interview mistakes and lost opportunities?
- Instead, learn from a realistic job interview simulator, in the
- comfort and privacy of your home.
-
- If you follow the training strategy as outlined above, you'll be
- "light-years" ahead of other candidates. With the help of "You're
- Hired!," you will impress interviewers with the content of your
- answers, the confidence in your voice, and the natural appearance
- of your gestures and mannerisms. As a result, they will perceive
- you as the "best" person for the job. As you know, the best
- person always gets hired.
-
- With "You're Hired!," you can cut months or even years off your
- job hunt. Without it, you're wasting precious time. "You're
- Hired!" will help you to enjoy life now, with a better job, more
- money, and time to do the activities you really enjoy. Improving
- the quality of your life is not a difficult task. Simply use
- "You're Hired!" to get hired.

-
- * USING "YOU'RE HIRED!" *
- _________________________________________________________________
-
-
-
- "You're Hired!" is easy to learn and use. Novice computer users
- will appreciate its logical structure and simple commands. In
- general, remember that pressing the <ENTER> key moves you
- forward, while pressing the <ESC> key moves you backward.
-
- If you are ever in doubt about what to do, first search your
- screen for a description of the active keys and their functions,
- e.g. F1=Help. In this case, press the <F1> key to view a help
- screen. The active keys are usually listed at the very bottom of
- the screen. If you've searched the program and this manual and
- still can't find an answer to your question, please refer to the
- section titled, ANSWERS TO YOUR QUESTIONS.
-
- If you leave your computer unattended with "You're Hired!"
- loaded, you may return to find that your screen is blank. Don't
- worry. A built-in screen saver automatically blanks the screen
- after ten minutes of keyboard inactivity. This energy-saving
- feature helps to extend the life of your monitor. If your screen
- does go blank, simply tap any key and the display will return.

- The MAIN MENU in "You're Hired!" offers the following options:
-
- QUICK START - A text screen that describes the basic steps

-
- TAG QUESTIONS - A display table that allows you to select or
- "tag" questions for use in a customized
- interview called a SPECIAL DRILL. You may
- also view, add, or change the questions,
- advice, and notes.
-
- SPECIAL DRILL - A customized job interview simulator that
- displays only those questions that you
- previously selected using the TAG QUESTIONS
- or BEGIN INTERVIEW menu options. The SPECIAL
- DRILL simulator is very similar to the BEGIN
- INTERVIEW simulator.
-
- PRINT QUESTIONS - A printed report containing all of the
- interview questions and advice. This report
- is particularly useful when practicing in
- front of a mirror or video camera.
-
- There are two ways to execute a MAIN MENU option. You may either

- <ENTER> key, or press the first letter of your choice to quickly

- QUESTIONS.
-
- The QUICK START option is self-explanatory. The other options are

-
- If you select TAG QUESTIONS from the MAIN MENU, the TAG TABLE
- will appear. This table has several important functions. Its most
- obvious function is to conveniently display all of the questions,
- advice, and notes. The primary purpose of the TAG TABLE is to
- provide a way to select, or "tag," individual questions for use
- in a customized interview called a SPECIAL DRILL. You can also
- add or change the questions, advice, and notes.
-
-

- number 21, press 2, then press 1. If you pause briefly before
- typing the 1, notice that the highlight bar first jumps to

- Deleting Questions
- __________________
-
- Don't worry about accidentally erasing individual records
- (questions, advice, notes). You can't, because "You're Hired!"
- does not have a "delete" option. The only way to delete a record
- is to type new text over an existing record. In other words, to
- delete a question, you must replace it with another question.
-
-
-

-
- * THE SHAREWARE CONCEPT *
- _________________________________________________________________
-
-
-
- "You're Hired!" is a copyrighted computer program that is being
- marketed as Shareware. Shareware is a distribution method, NOT a
- type of software. Shareware authors are accomplished programmers,
- just like commercial authors, and the programs are of comparable
- quality. (In both cases, there are good and bad programs!) The
- only difference between commercial software and Shareware is in
- the method of distribution.
-
- Shareware distribution is an inexpensive option for software
- developers because it does not require expensive marketing or
- elaborate packaging. Shareware authors pass this cost savings on
- to you, the consumer. Their programs are typically much less
- expensive than equivalent commercial programs.
-
- Because shareware authors market their software on a "try before
- you buy" basis, you know exactly what you're buying and how well
- it fits your needs. If you don't like it, you're under no
- obligation to buy it. Commercial software, on the other hand,
- requires money up front. If you purchase a program and later find
- that it is inadequate, you've wasted your money.
-
- When you get software through the Shareware channel, you
- typically receive a fully functional program to evaluate for a
- specified length of time. At the end of the evaluation period,
- you either register (pay for) it, or stop using it. Most
- shareware programs offer incentives to encourage registration.
- These incentives may include a printed and bound manual,
- additional software, free telephone support, etc.
-
- Shareware offers the supreme satisfaction guarantee. You don't
- buy the program until you've tried it and are certain that it
- meets your needs. If you find that you can't use the product, you
- pay nothing.
-
- Shareware is kept alive through your support. Thank you!
-
