SCIENCE 3 - ELECTRICITY AND MAGNETISM - RELEASE NOTES
-----------------------------------------------------
1) Use of CDFS v2.13 or lower.
------------------------------
There is a known problem with this disc (and indeed any other
multimedia CD-ROM) when using it with Acorns CDFS versions 2.13
or lower on a RISC-OS 3 machine. A bug in CDFS may cause the
machine to 'hang' after extensive use of the application. The
solution to this is to configure CDROMBuffers (see your CDFS
user guide) to as high a value as possible (eg. 32k on a 2Mb
machine, 128k(or more) on a 4Mb machine). This will greatly
reduce the chance of this problem occuring.
2) Cumana SCSI Cards
--------------------
Users of Cumana SCSI Cards CA008 or CA006 with
CDFS Driver 1.17 or earlier may experience some
difficulty running Acorn Replay movies from
CD-ROM. This is due to a compatibility problem
with the latest versions of Replay.
If you experience any problems, a CDFS Driver
upgrade (v1.18 @ August 94) is available from Cumana:
Cumana Ltd.
Pines Trading Estate,
Broad Street,
Guildford,
Surrey,
GU3 3BH.

3) Running the application on 2Mb Acorn Machines
------------------------------------------------
Running this application on a 2 Megabyte machine requires
all of the available memory. To ensure smooth operation,
be sure that you are running no other applications.
CD-ROM buffers should be set to 32K at most and the font
cache to 32K at most. For details of how to do this consult
your Acorn user guide.
4) Videos (and playing them on 2Mb machines)
--------------------------------------------
Normally, in order to play videos on 2 Megabyte machines,
this program will be compressed when you press play, in order
to free more memory. A better option is to make a !Scrap
application available to this program. This will remove the time
needed to compress the program. To use this system follow
these steps...
After switching on the machine, run !Sci3 before
anything else.
Make sure you have some free memory available (e.g.
16K), possibly by reducing the CD-ROM buffers by
16K if necessary. You may have to restart the machine
for this to take effect, and then re-run the program.
Open the hard drive or floppy disc containing your
!Scrap application (preferably hard drive). About
500K of disc space is required.
Click on the "Use !Scrap application" option on the
Science 3 icon bar menu so that a tick appears next
to it.
Your videos can then be accessed more quickly.
