  37. Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software before buying it.
  38. If you try a Shareware program and continue using it, you are expected to
  39. register. Individual programs differ on details -- some request registration
  40. while others require it, some specify a maximum trial period. With
  41. registration, you get anything from the simple right to continue using the
  42. software to an updated program and a printed manual.
  43.  
  44. Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and retail software, and the
  45. copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific exceptions as stated
  46. below. Shareware authors are accomplished programmers, just like retail
  47. authors, and the programs are of comparable quality. (In both cases, there are
  48. good programs and bad ones!) The main difference is in the method of
  49. distribution. The author specifically grants the right to copy and distribute
  50. the software, either to all and sundry or to a specific group. For example,
  51. some authors require written permission before a commercial disk vendor may
  52. copy their Shareware.

  54. Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You should find
  55. software that suits your needs and pocketbook, whether it's retail or
  56. Shareware. The Shareware system makes fitting your needs easier, because you
  57. can try before you buy. And because the overhead is lower, prices are lower
  58. also. Shareware has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't use the
  59. product, you don't pay for it.

  124.                     Installating Paint Shop Pro
  125.  
  126. To install Paint Shop Pro, follow these steps:
  127.  
  128.   Before you can use Paint Shop Pro you have to run the setup program from
  129.   Windows so it will work properly on your computer. You cannot just copy the
  130.   files from the Paint Shop Pro disk to your hard disk. The files on the
  131.   distribution disk are packed in a special way to save space. The setup
  132.   program unpacks those files and builds them on your working disk.
  133.  
  134.   1. Make Windows' "Program Manager" the active window.
  135.  
  136.   2. From Windows' "Program Manager", select "File", then select "Run".  This
  137.      will open the "Run" dialog box.
  138.  
  139.   3. Place the copy of Paint Shop Pro in your floppy drive.
  140.      Now, the dialog box needs for you to type in the command that will run
  141.      the Paint Shop Pro installation program.
  142.  
  143.      * If your floppy disk goes in your Drive "A", type:
  144.               A:SETUP
  145.        Leave the "Run Minimized" box un-selected, and click the "OK" command
  146.        button.
  147.  
  148.      * If your floppy disk goes in your Drive "B", type:
  149.               B:SETUP
  150.        Leave the "Run Minimized" box un-selected, and click the "OK" command
  151.        button.
  152.  
  153.   4. Fill in the required information in the dialog box.
  154.  
  155.      * It will ask you for the "Source Drive and Directory" designation where
  156.        your Paint Shop Pro floppy disk is located.  (This is the same floppy
  157.        drive designation you typed in the previous step before the word
  158.        "setup".)
  159.  
  160.      * It will ask you for the hard disk "Destination Drive and Directory"
  161.        designation on which you want it to install Paint Shop Pro.  It will
  162.        suggest a directory named "C:\PSP".
  163.  
  164.        If you want the Paint Shop Pro program files installed on a different
  165.        drive or directory, just click the pointer to the right of the
  166.        characters you want to change, backspace over the ones you want to
  167.        erase, then type in the new designation.
  168.  
  169.      * It will automatically build a Paint Shop Pro icon and add it to
  170.        "Program Manager".  Accept the "Yes" (already selected by default) if
  171.        you do want it to do this.  Select "No" if you do not.
  172.  
  173.   5. Paint Shop Pro Setup will unpack the necessary files and place them into
  174.      your directory.
  175.  
  176.   6. Paint Shop Pro Setup will notify you when the installation is completed.
  177.  
  178. Paint Shop Pro is installed and ready to use.  Double click the pointer on
  179. the Paint Shop Pro icon and try it out!

  185. In order to keep the size of the Shareware version of Paint Shop Pro
  186. reasonable no user's manual is provided. You will find that ALL menu items
  187. and associated dialog boxes, along with general information, is provided on
  188. line using the HELP-INDEX menu option of the program.

  190. When you purchase the licensed version of Paint Shop Pro you will receive a
  191. 192 page, fully illustrated, perfect bound User's Guide.

  248. a disk with the licensed version and the printed user's guide.
