ARC-AID v2.1 PERSAD Software Registration (docs)
UTIL FEB92 COMPRESSION ARCAID SHELL VIRUS
FILES: arcaid21.sdn
ARC-AID is an automatic archive tester/manipulator
that's specially designed for ease of use. It's a very
practical tool for all Bulletin Board users who are
constantly trying out various software from different
sources. It should be the FIRST program you run on any newly
downloaded file. This version has been created for use by
users of 4DOS 4.0+ only and will not work well with an
"exclusive" MS-DOS environment.
ARC-AID will test, uncompress, scan archives and
remove pollutants, display documentation and even clean up
after itself. It provides you with a detail log which can be
printed or viewed at your leisure.
[1] Uses 4DOS virtual memory batch commands for super
quick performance. This can be improved even more by using a
RAM drive for the temporary directory.
[2] Wildcard compatible. No need to know full name,
or even the Archive Extension! ARC-AID will determine these
for you, if you wish.
[3] Automatic cleanup of temporary directory every
time program is run. No more file mixups.
[4] No "messy" displays. Informative prompts are
displayed on one screen together with your system statistics.
[5] Automatic search and display of any documentation
within file. No excuse for not knowing how to setup your
programs.
[6] Supports ZIP/ARJ/LZH/ARC/ZOO extensions
currently. Will also detect and uncompress imbedded archives,
even if they are different from the host archive format.
[7] Displays immediate help just by typing "AA" or
"AA ?" at the DOS prompt.
[8] Simple command line structure. No need to
remember cryptic switches. Just tell ARC-AID where the file
you wish to examine is located and it will do the rest.
[9] Timed control of the entire process. Uses 4DOS
internal timer to tell you how long it took.
[10] Automatic archive cleaning! Will remove BBS ads
and comments from polluted archives, as well as strip -AV
codes from ZIP files. PKWare's codes have been compromised
and no longer provide a valid indication of an untampered
archive, hence the reason we decided to strip -AV codes on
files zipped with versions prior to 1.98.
[11] Check for imbedded TELEDISK files and automatic
integrity check performed if any are detected.
[12] Complete Viruscan of ALL files within archive.
Since recent viruses have been found to infect data files,
this is a much more prudent approach than just scanning
executable files. Scan cannot be aborted and uses McAfee's
new TURBO mode for faster scanning.
[13] Integrity check performed on every archive (even
imbedded ones) before uncompressing to disk.
[14] Log available (TEST.LOG) of entire process. This
can be printed or viewed later if needed.
[15] Customized comment added to each archive (if
supported) to discern which archives have been processed by
ARC-AID.
[16] Can be run from ANY drive you wish to uncompress
files in. Not limited to ONE drive. All necessary directories
will be created in the drive if not found.
[17] Uses path for global access to program. Now you
can call it up from anywhere!
[18] Multiple file processing. You can test multiple
archives by simply using wildcards. Eg. TEST01.ZIP,
TEST02.ZIP & TEST03.ZIP can be processed with the single
command:
AA \FILEDIR\TEST*.ZIP
[19] Automatic Alert System will sound alarm if file
is corrupted or a virus is detected. All processes will be
aborted.
