(1) Attica Zip Assistant
AZA is a user interface program to make working with ZIP
files quick and easy. AZA is not a standalone program.
AZA requires PKware's PKZIP and PKUNZIP to function.
These excellent programs are copyrighted shareware
programs which can be obtained on many BBS's and
registered through PKware,Inc.
A hard disk is required to run this program.
PKZIP and PKUNZIP version 1.1 is required to run this program.
The following files are included in Attica Zip Assistant
Version 1.1.
AZA.EXE Main Program
AZA.HLP Help file accessed through F1 key
at point in the program
AZA.DOC Reference Manual for AZA
AZAORDER.DOC Registration order form
AZAREAD.1ST Important information
AZA version 1.1 fixes several problems found in
version 1.0.
- Monochrome monitor support. In 1.0 the menu selector
bar was not visible.
- 1.0 did not assure exit to the same sub-directory that
the program started in.
- In 1.0 if the drive was changed in director and then
exited, PKZip would probably not run.
1.1 assures that the proper drive is active when
director is exited.
- Director now uses F for File Search Specification
instead of P for Search Pattern.(Big deal)
(2) Attica Zip Assistant
AZA version 1.1 supports PKZIP and PKUNZIP version 1.1.
- The command -^ defaults on the command line to add the
command line to the screen inside of PKZIP and PKUNZIP.
It may be toggled on and off with the Clear Command
Line key (F2).
- The command -$
- The command -t
- The command -ei seems to replace -ex. This will cause
an incompatibility with a lower version of PKZIP and
PKUNZIP.
- The command -f in the unzip menu
- The command -e in the unzip menu
- The command -! is not supported. It may be inserted
at the beginning of the ZIP filename and separated
by a space.

Getting Started...
AZA is designed to bring all the features of PKZIP and
PKUNZIP to the user's fingertips without having to
remember all the commands and without having to type
all of the filenames, etc. on the command line. Help is
always available by pressing the F1 key. AZA follows
PKware's command structure as closely as possible to
make executing the various command possibilities quick
and easy. This approach makes it unnecessary to learn a
completely different system to use AZA. The command line
is displayed at the top of the menu screen so you can see
exactly what will be sent to the ZIP program. This makes
knowing PKware's command set an advantage, and learning
it a matter of course.
The first screen that will appear upon execution will
allow you to select Compress Files, Uncompress Files,
and Setup. The first time AZA is run Setup must be run.
The program will automatically take you there if it doesn't
find its data file. It will ask for the full pathname
of the subdirectory where AZA is located. Type the
pathname and press <ENTER>. Example: C:\UTIL\ZIP\
The next question will be to enter the full pathname
where PKZIP and PKUNZIP is located. This is all
there is to setup. AZA writes this information to
a file. AZA must either be run from its own subdirectory
or the full path where it is located must be added to
the command line when it is executed. Example: AZA \UTIL\ZIP\
assuming that AZA is located in subdirectory \UTIL\ZIP\
and that this subdirectory is in the PATH statement
in your AUTOEXEC.BAT. It is suggested that a BAT
file be made with this command in it and then the
program can always be run by simply typing in the name
of the BAT file. This is necessary because AZA must be
able to find its data file (AZACFG.DAT) when it is
executed. Once setup is done there is no need to do
it again unless AZA or the PKZIP files are moved
to a different sub-directory.
At the initial menu you may choose 'Compress Files' or
'Uncompress Files'. Choose 'Compress Files' to make a ZIP
file. This will display all of the optional commands
in PKZIP. To learn exactly what these commands do refer
to PKware's manual for PKZIP and PKUNZIP. For a short
summary press the F1 key for help. The selections are
pretty self explanatory. The options can be entered in
almost any order with the exception of the file specs.
The first filename or filespec is always assumed to be
the name of the Zip file to be worked with.

To select an option move to it by using the arrow keys
or simply press the first letter of the option, then
press ENTER. If the command has other options a sub-menu
will be displayed to make the additional selections.
Make your choices and press ENTER (some screens require
CNTRL_ENTER). Press ESC to back out without selecting.
Checkmarks are used to show at a glance which options
have been used. To erase an option just select it again.
The entire command line may be erased by pressing the F2 key.
At any point while the menu screen is displayed you may
go into the Director by pressing the F3 key. A file or
files may be pulled into the command line by pressing
F3 while in option '1: Enter Zip File' or option
'2: Enter File Names'. This saves having to type them.
The Director allows you to do normal file and directory
maintenance without leaving AZA.

(5) Attica Zip Assistant
If more than three files are marked and pulled into
the command line then a list file is created and its
name is put on the command line with an @ in front of it.
This allows more files to be worked with at one time.
The file is a normal ASCII file named TMP?.TXT with the ?
replaced with the number of the file. The first file
would be named TMP1.TXT. These files are deleted after
they are used. When picking files two or three at a time
keep in mind the command line length limitation. If it
doesn't fit in the file name field then it is too long to
process.
When the command line is completed simply press F10 or
CNTRL-ENTER to pass it on to PKZIP for processing.
The active disk must be the hard disk when doing certain
functions in the program because is stores a major
portion of itself on disk to make room in memory. This
is done when you eXecute a command from the director and
also when the system is turned over to PKZIP or PKUNZIP
when F10 is pressed to process the command line. This is
important to remember when working with files on floppy
drives. Director will automatically change back to the
proper drive when it is exited. There should be no
problems with this as long as complete pathnames are used.
An example of zipping a file would be:
Press ENTER at 'A: Add File'
Move selector to 'P: Recurse Paths (Stores paths with
filenames)
Press ENTER
Move selector to 'R: Recurse Sub-directories (Searches
Sub-directories)
Press ENTER
Move selector to '1: Enter ZIP File'
Press ENTER
Type the name you wish for the ZIP file to be created.
Lets say 'TEST'(.ZIP is optional) You could press F3 to
pull a ZIP file in
Press ENTER
Move selector to '2: Enter File Name'
Press ENTER
Type filename or filespec or F3 to enter Director to pick
file(s)
Lets Press F3.
Move selector to file wanted (We'll pick AZA.EXE)
Press ENTER (To ZIP multiple files simply mark them with
the SPACE BAR and then press ENTER)
Press ENTER to leave the Filename sub-menu
Press F10 or CNTRL-ENTER to send the command line to PKZIP
DONE...
