  7. FILE SHIELD   has   been   designed  primarily  for  software
  8. manufacturers, publishers, developers and  distributors.   It
  9. shields   executable  files  so  that  virus  infections  are
  10. instantly detected and automatically removed by  the  shield.
  11. Programs shielded in this manner will not remain infected and
  12. will  not  continue to propagate an infection.  This protects
  13. the software manufacturer against possible legal or liability
  14. questions when the software is  introduced  into  an  already
  15. infected  site.  Infected users are frequently confused about
  16. the origin of an  infection  and  it  is  difficult,  if  not
  17. impossible,  do  determine  whether  a  specific  program has
  18. infected a system, or whether the already infected system had
  19. infected the program in question.  Shielded programs will not
  20. carry an infection and will provide greater assurance to  the
  21. user that the program was not the source of the infection.

  23. FILE SHIELD  may,  of course, also be used by end users.  But
  24. it is not recommended as a global system  protector.   It  is
  25. fine  for  shielding  your  most  frequently used programs or
  26. those programs which would be difficult or costly to  replace
  27. in the event of an infection, but it is limited to protecting
  28. executable files.  Boot sector and partition table viruses do
  29. not infect executable files and you would still be vulnerable
  30. to these infections.  For global system protection please use
  31. VSHIELD.   This program is available on most bulletin boards,
