Dic_Demo_v1.01
JLQ/kqproduccions
INTRODUCTION:
When I started on Amiga, I didn't have the faintest idea of english
(And I still don't) ;-(), so as many others, I started to get a bit fed up
because most of the docs and most programs came in that language. With a lot
of patience and with the help of a dictionary I learnt a few things, but
my goal was to find a translator that could make my life happier. The problem is
that uptodate I haven't found any that worked on Amiga and the truth is that
I am quite fed up of having to use a PC to translate & understand things about
the amiga. So I had the idea of creating one myself. Unfortunately, to do so
I had to start off from a vocabulary.. and I've been working on that for a long
time.
So then, DIC_Demo es the 1st public version of this project on wich I
have been working for many months. It consists of a dictionary program from:
English->Spanish Spanish->English, that works only under CLI thus it requires
arguments in the command line.
This version features more than 7.000 entries for each of the languages,
but I'm developing another with about 80.000 entries ;-)
What I still have to decide if it will be P.D. or ShareWare.
HOW TO USE DIC:
Easy peasy!
dic <language> <word>
Where:
<Language> Is the language you want to translate from. You must
fill in either of these options:
esp to translate from Spanish to English
ing to translate form English to Spanish
<Word> Is any word you feel like translating from the selected
language.
Examples:
dic ing back Shows us all the possible translations form the
english word "back" in spanish.
dic esp atrás Shows us all the possible translations form the
spanish word "atrás" in english.
If you only type
Dic
or you double-click on the Wb Icon a window will show up with
information about the program, but if you want to have more
information you should type
Dic ?
I have added two silly Ced scripts: "dic_esp.ced" & "dic_ing.ced".
If you have them installed as a macro on a funtion key, whenever you are
reading a document with Ced & you place the cursor on the word you don't
understand, just pressing the funtion key will bring to front a comunication
screen between arexx & Ced showing you the meaning of the word.
From CLI/Shell you can also feed it with expressions or compound
names as long you enclose them in quotation marks. Example:
dic esp "a lo largo de"
This option doesn't work with Ced commands, thus it only captures
the single word the cursor is placed on.
INSTALATION:
You must create a Directory place it there and do the following assign
assign dic: <path:yourdirectory> as Dic searches its data in Dic:
Ced commands can be placed anywhere as long you idicate the correct path
when you assign them to Funtion Keys. If you put them in REXX: you can ommit specifying
the path ;-))
TO DO:
Release the 80.000 word dictionary I'm working on.
BUGS:
Not known/reported.
CONTACT THE AUTHOR:
Any suggestion, postcard, bug report, vocab error, vocab adding, beers
or cash money will be welcome ;-))

THANKS TO:
Frederic Aleixandri for saving me many hours work developing
this demo.
Ferran Delriu for helping me out with the Arexx commands.

HISTORY:

1.01 Corrected accents on dictionary and have enhanced a bit the doc to explain
that expressions & compound nouns can be used on CLI/Shell.
