Changes in Encrypt-It v2.00 for Windows provides the following over v1.45:
- Added a command/icon bar for easy execution of common commands.
- Added a status line complete with date and time.
- Now you can use F1 access from all points in Encrypt-It for Windows
(even within message boxes).
- Added cipher block chaining (CBC) for DES and several additional layers
for the proprietary level (proprietary+) to provide a total of four
different user selectable encryption levels. DES+CBC provides the
ultimate in file security. DES and DES+CBC are applied on top of the
proprietary level of encryption providing multiple layer encrytion.
- Simplified the File Remove option and made it more powerful by adding
a listbox showing all the files selected for removal. Also, the same
routines are used for single and multiple files resulting in a smaller
code size and more common interface between these functions.
- Expanded the Preferences area to save and restore the default file
remove method. Also added an extra safety message option for file
remove.
- Added optional key clearing between encryption/decryption mode swaps
or vice versa. This option helps improve the protection for your
in-memory key. Optional key clearing is configurable in the Preferences
area. The help available in the Preferences describes this option.
- Cleaned up select file "select all" command to catch the case where there
are no files in the files list box AND you use the "select all" command.
- Corrected a problem with the encrypt/decrypt/remove status boxes where
they could get confused if you selected the stop button several times
without answering/closing the previous "Continue yes/no?" message boxes.
- Simplified the options selection by moving all options to the Preferences
area box and removing the redundant options selection from the main menu.
- Added two additional methods of encryption. Encrypt-It now supports
an enhanced proprietary method and DES with cypher block chaining (CBC).
- Simplified the "decrypt overwrite - specify new name" command loop so
that it is easier to exit from the loop if you ever need to.
- Added buttons to the file select dialog box to quickly display the
directory for all files (*.*), all encrypted files (*.~*), all document
files (*.DOC), and all text files (*.TXT).
- Changed the statistics selection key on the file pulldown from S to t
in order to eliminate a conflict with a previous menu selection key.
- Added routines to the statistics ploting area to automatically adjust
the background for graphics to compensate for Windows color adjustements.
- Added smooth multi-tasking for the file wipe commands. You can now
wipe files in the background with virtually no foreground slowdown.
- Modified the file decrypt routines to give you the option to continue
decrypting after Encrypt-It detects that the encrypted file has been
altered. This will allow you to recover part of a file even if it was
tampered with or corrupted during an electronic file transfer.
- Changed the key input to *s with verification to help protect your key.
- Expanded the help by adding additional information and by adding more
cross reference jumps between topics.
- Added an info button to the select file area to provide encryption or
decryption performance rates for the different encryption methods.
- Numerous other minor enhancements that users had requested.
- Do you have suggestions for improving Encrypt-It? Please fill out
the SUGGEST.DOC form and send it to us. We would like to hear from you.
