Thanks for buying another Bookie Bookworm Talking Book!
Installation
------------
From Windows:
Select File-Run in Program Manager and type:
D:\SETUP
(where D: is the drive letter of your CDROM)
After running SETUP you can double click the Bookie Bookworm icon
to start the program. If everything works except the sound, try
exiting Windows by selecting File-Exit in Program Manager (not the
MSDOS icon) and running BOOKIE from DOS. (see below)
From DOS:
At the DOS prompt, type:
D:\SETUPDOS
(where D: is the drive letter of your CDROM)
After running SETUPDOS, start BOOKIE from DOS by typing:
D:\BOOKIE
(where D: is the drive letter of your CDROM)
How To Use Bookie
-----------------
1. Press the Books Button to choose a new book from
this series.
2. Press the Read Button and have the story read to you.
3. Press the Word Button and I'll read each word. Its a game,
each time you press the word button I'll highlight the word,
you guess the word and then press the word button again to
go to the next word. I'll say the word that was highlighted
so you can see if you guessed right. This is a great way for
a beginning reader to learn to read.
4. Press the Popups Button to see the first hidden surprise on
each page. Touch the screen with my hand to find over 100
surprises in every book!
5. Press the Crayons Button to get your crayons out. Press it
again later to put them away. Touch a crayon
with my hand to pick it up. Use the tip of the crayon to color
the picture.
7. Press the Clear Colors Button to take the colors out of the
picture.
6. Press the Restore Colors Button to bring all the original
colors back to the picture.
8. Press the Questions Button and I will give you some helpful
hints if you have a sound device.
9. Touch the lips to have the page read to you.
10. Touch any word to hear it spoken.
11. Touch the Exit Sign to leave the program.
Bonus Offer
By registering, receive a secret code to unlock the incredible
Crayon Factory immediately. Use this terrific tool to create
thousands of colors by taking one of the eight crayons from the
back row of the crayon box and placing it in the factory. Move
the sliders to create custom colors!
Question/Answer
Q: How does BOOKIE know how my Sound Blaster Compatible Sound is setup?
A: Type SET at the DOS prompt, if you see "BLASTER=A220 D1 I5 T3"
The A220 indicates address 220, the I5 indicates interrupt 5, the
D1 means DMA channel 1 and must be set at 1.
BOOKIE uses the BLASTER variable to setup your sound.
Q: Sound plays for a few seconds and then stops.
A: During your Sound Blaster installation, you may have selected the
wrong interrupt number (we suggest INT# 5). Type SET at the DOS
prompt and read the BLASTER setting.
- OR -
You may be running from Windows. Some old Windows Sound Drivers
do not work properly with DOS. Try exiting Windows and running
BOOKIE from DOS.
Q: My mouse doesn't work?
A: Make sure you have a DOS Mouse Driver installed. Typically, you
can simply type the word MOUSE at the DOS prompt or add a line
to C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT that says MOUSE. Your mouse driver may be
called GMOUSE or LMOUSE as well.
