  43. A) Overview

  45. Welcome to The SoftKey Game Zone with over 1,000 
  46. games for Windows 95/98, Palm OS, and Windows CE!  
  47. The SoftKey Game Zone CD Browser will
  48. allow you to view information and install all of 
  49. the software on the SoftKey Game Zone CDROM.  This 
  50. readme file will give you some basic information to 
  51. get you started.  Please see the CD Browser Help 
  52. for more detailed information.

  55. B) Minimum Requirements
  56.  
  57. For Windows games:
  58.  
  59. - PC or compatible, running Windows« 95/98 
  60.   operating system
  61. - Pentium« or compatible processor
  62. - 16 MB of RAM
  63. - 2 MB of free hard drive space for SoftKey Game 
  64.   Zone browser interface (additional hard drive 
  65.   space required for individual game installation)
  66. - 2x CD-ROM drive
  67. - 2 MB video card (High-Color color capability)
  68. - Sound Blaster or 100% compatible sound card
  69. - 640x480 SVGA monitor
  70. - mouse
  71. - modem, with active Internet account to visit 
  72.   individual game sites (optional, but recommended)

  74. - DirectX 6.1 (required for some games)
  75. - Internet browser (Netscape 3, Internet Explorer 
  76.   3.02, Opera, or equivalent)

  102. II.  Installation
  103. -----------------
  104.  
  105. You must install SoftKey Game Zone to your hard drive 
  106. to use the CD Browser interface, which will take 
  107. approximately 2 MB of free hard drive space.
  108.  
  109.   1) Close all open programs on your computer and make
  110.      sure that the SoftKey Game Zone CD-ROM is in your
  111.      CD-ROM drive.
  112.  
  113.   2) Go to Start > Run to bring up the Run dialog box.
  114.  
  115.   3) In the "Open:" command line of the Run dialog
  116.      box, type "X:\setup.exe" (WITHOUT the quotes),
  117.      replacing X with your CD-ROM drive letter.
  118.  
  119.        EXAMPLE: If your CD-ROM drive letter is D,
  120.        enter "D:\setup.exe" (WITHOUT the quotes) into
  121.        the "Open:" command line.
  122.  
  123.   4) Once you have entered the correct command line,
  124.      press OK to launch the SoftKey Game Zone setup 
  125.      program.  Follow the steps in the setup program 
  126.      to continue the installation.

  129. B) Installing DirectX
  130.  
  131. At the end of the installation, you will be asked 
  132. if you want to install DirectX to your machine.  
  133. Many games on the SoftKey Game Zone CDROM require 
  134. DirectX, so we suggest that you install DirectX at 
  135. this time.
  136.  
  137. If you do not install DirectX during the the SoftKey 
  138. Game Zone installation, you can install it with the 
  139. following procedure:
  140.  
  141.   1) Close all open programs on your computer and 
  142.      make sure that the SoftKey Game Zone CD-ROM is 
  143.      in your CD-ROM drive. 
  144.   2) Go to Start > Run to bring up the Run dialog box. 
  145.   3) In the "Open:" command line of the Run dialog box, 
  146.      type "X:\directx7\dxsetup.exe" (WITHOUT the 
  147.      quotes), replacing "X" with your CD-ROM drive 
  148.      letter.
  149.          EXAMPLE: If your CD-ROM drive letter is D, 
  150.                   enter "D:\directx7\dxsetup.exe" 
  151.                   (WITHOUT the quotes) into the "Open:" 
  152.                   command line. 
  153.   4) Press "OK" in the Run dialog box to run the 
  154.      DirectX installation. Follow the directions in the 
  155.      setup program.  You will probably be required to 
  156.      reboot your machine to complete the installation.

  159. III.  Quick Start
  160. -----------------

  162. A) Launch the CD Browser
  163.  
  164. By default, the CD Browser setup installs the 
  165. CD Browser shortcut to Start > Programs > 
  166. SoftKey Game Zone > CD Browser > SoftKey Game Zone.  
  167. If you installed the shortcuts to another location 
  168. during the installation, please look for them in 
  169. that location.

  172. B) Using the CD Browser
  173.  
  174. Using the CD Browser is fairly simple.  You can 
  175. view programs for different operating systems and 
  176. devices using the Main category buttons 
  177. (Windows 95/98, Palm OS, Windows CE) and navigate 
  178. sub-categories (Arcade, Card, Puzzle, etc.) under 
  179. each operating system to narrow down your search. 
  180. When you choose the operating and sub-category 
  181. that you want, scroll through the Program List 
  182. and highlight games to get more information about 
  183. them.  A description of each game will appear in 
  184. the Description Window, along with its price and 
  185. web site link (if available).  Use the Install, 
  186. Run, and Info buttons to install the game, run 
  187. the game from the CDROM, or launch the game 
  188. information text file (if applicable).  Enjoy!

  195. CD Browser, please call 319-247-3333 for technical
  196. support.  Please be at your computer with the 
  197. SoftKey Game Zone CDROM and have all information 
  198. handy regarding your computer specifications.

  201. be referred to the program author.
