  3. Welcome to FAS-TYPE for the IBM-PC and Compatibles.
  4.  
  5. FAS-TYPE is a typing instruction program SPECIFICALLY designed for IBM-PC
  6. styled keyboards.  These quick-start instructions will get you going right
  7. away. You MUST have a Color/Graphics Adapter Card in your PC or FAS-TYPE
  8. will complain.
  9.  
  10. To Start:
  11.     Floppy Disk Drive: Place the disk in any drive and type FASTYPE.
  12.     Fixed Disk Drive: First create a sub-directory then copy the entire
  13.     contents of the disk to the new directory. Change to the new dir-
  14.     ectory and type FASTYPE to start the program.
  15.  
  16. To Run:
  17.     After selecting the disk drive letter where the program and data files
  18.     exist, Menu #1 will be displayed. Just press F10 to start a drill.
  19.     To return to Menu #1 press Escape key or F1 function key.
  20.  
  21. What you have to do:
  22.         For DRILLS, type each key as you are prompted for it. The 
  23.     selection is random, the number of characters you have
  24.     to successfully type is displayed before you start.
  25.     When the drill is finished your WPM and other data will
  26.     be displayed.
  27.     For LESSONS, type each character pointed to by the 
  28.     cursor () and when you reach the  symbol, press the
  29.     enter key (┘) (for "carriage-return"). When you finish
  30.     the lesson your WPM and other data will be displayed.

  32. While running:
  33.      Menus:
  34.     There are 5 drill, lesson, and feature selection menus and
  35.     2 sub-menus for selecting additional keys to learn.
  36.     Menus 1 to 5 can be displayed by pressing function
  37.     keys F1 to F5 anytime while the screen keyboard is displayed.
  38.     And, while any selection menu is displayed you can go to another
  39.     menu by selecting it from Menu #1 or by first holding down
  40.     the ALT key and pressing F2, F3, F4, or F5.
  41.      <Esc>ape key:
  42.     Pressing the Escape key anytime during a drill or lesson will
  43.     cause the drill or lesson to terminate and Menu #1 to be
  44.     displayed.
  45.      Function Keys:
  46.     The function keys have two purposes: 1. Pressing any function
  47.     key (F1-F5 only) during a DRILL or LESSON will cause the
  48.         appropriate Menu to be displayed, 2. Pressing a function key
  49.         while a MENU is displayed will cause SELECTION of the item
  50.         listed next to the function key name on the Menu.
  51.      Help:
  52.     ALL menus have help screens available. For the Main menus, F1
  53.     is always the HELP key; for the 2 sub-menus, type the number 0
  54.     to get the help screens. Follow the instructions given.

  56. Caveats:
  57. FAS-TYPE will run on most compatibles, however, the program runs
  58. notably faster on the ATT-PC 6300 which distorts the prompting rhythm.

  63. Documentation (about 48 pages) in the form of a comprehensive USER
  64. GUIDE is stored on disk.  To print the guide just type in:
