  6. "news.announce.important" is a newsgroup for just what it says it is --
  7. important announcements.  It is intended to be read by everyone on
  8. Usenet, although nobody is forced to subscribe.  To post to
  9. news.announce.important, send mail to the moderator at
  10. "announce@stargate.com".  Some netnews implementations will
  11. automatically mail to the moderator anything posted instead of
  12. attempting to post it directly.  If the message is appropriate, it will
  13. be posted by the moderator; if not, the moderator will suggest a more
  14. appropriate place to post it or a better way to go about the same
  15. goal.

  17. Discussions in news.announce.important are explicitly forbidden, and
  18. the volume of traffic will be kept low enough to keep people from
  19. feeling a need to unsubscribe.  Usenet administrators for each site
  20. should make a point of reading news.announce.important.

  22. news.announce.newgroups exists for announcements of either the
  23. creation  or the consideration of a new newsgroup.  All calls for
  24. votes, calls for discussions, vote results, and creation notices of
  25. all hierarchies should be posted to news.announce.newgroups.  Submissions
  26. should be directed to news-announce-newgroups@turbo.bio.net (or to your
  27. nearest backbone site).  Followups will be redirected to news.groups.

  29. Some messages will be repeated every month, in order to reach all
  30. newcomers.  These messages will be placed in news.announce.newusers,
  31. which is also moderated.  This makes it safe for experienced users who
  32. have already read these messages to unsubscribe to
  33. news.announce.newusers without missing anything new in
  34. news.announce.important.  If you aren't familiar with the netnews
  35. guidelines in news.announce.newusers, please read them carefully.  Your
  36. understanding of these rules will assure that you don't annoy the more
  37. than 1 million members of the net community (estimated) by
  38. unintentionally abusing the net, and will help you get more value from
  39. the net.

  41. The current policy is that news.announce.important submissions must be:
  42.  
  43. (a) short - preferably they should fit on one crt screen, including headers.
  44. (b) important enough to at least have their header shown to everyone on the
  45.     net.  The posting should be more of benefit to the net than to the poster.
  46. (c) not posted to any other newsgroup - news.announce.important by itself is 
  47.     supposed to be sufficient to reach everybody, and nobody should have to
  48.     read an announcement more than once.
  49. (d) signed - the author should be clearly evident.
  50. (e) not commercial, political, or religious in nature.
