The phenomenon, occasionally reported by Earth-based observers, of the apparent faint illumination of the unlit hemisphere of the planet Venus, when it is in a crescent phase. Although similar in appearance to the illumination of the dark side of the MOON by Earth-light, no such explanation is possible in the case of VENUS since that PLANET has no moon. The reality of the phenomenon has been questioned.
