A star which has been so severely compressed that most of the positively charged PROTONS and negatively charged ELECTRONS within it have combined to form neutral NEUTRONS. The radius of such a star would be of the order of 10 km and the mean density of the order of 1015 to in excess of 1018 kg m_3 (i.e. up to and beyond a thousand million million tonnes per cubic metre).
