  24. ~9~0~0A little internet reasearch revealed a few interesting points about tetris, 
  25. ~9~0~0where it originated and how it became so popular. I'm compelled to share it 
  26. ~9~0~0with you, and YES you do have to read it!

  28. Tetris was born (from what anyone can tell) sometime around 1987 this is what  
  29. I've been told anyway. The author Sergei Pazhitnov an employee of the Computer 
  30. Center of the (former) Acadamey of Sciences of the USSR. The game was written 
  31. on an old PDP-11-compatible workstation (called "DVK"). The game was aparently 
  32. licenced to nintendo from the Academy of Sciences, not from Sergei.  As far as 
  33. I know he got nothing, not even the recognition.  Aparently it wasn't just 
  34. nintendo who wanted the game, suposedly there was quite a fuss over who was to 
  35. get the rights to it. But It's not half obvious who won..
  36.  
  37. Its main success is due to the gameboy's distribution with tetris, as well as
  38. its console version of the game, both of which were major successes.

  47. NovaLight Software is just a bunch of strugling uni students, who in their
  48. limited spare time manage to code a couple of games every now and then. Our
  49. goal is to write stuff that we like rather than what everyone else likes.
  50. Hopefully most other people will like it too.

  52. All the members are pretty dedicated gaming veterans, and therefore know
  53. what we (and most others) want from games.  Within our limited, although
  54. rapidly expaning programming experience we plan to produce some rather
  55. impressive games.

  61. ~D~1~0THE GAME:
  62. ~E~0~0
  63. For those of us who have either been in a state of comatose for the larger 
  64. part of eternity, or have had a life up until now may be asking, what is
  65. this game?  
  66. Very basically it's a simple yet very addictive reaction game (I think that's 
  67. what you'd call it).  You have to guide the falling blocks to the ground
  68. removing lines as they fill horizontally.  If the blocks fill the play area
  69. up to the top, then you're gone. END OF GAME.
  70. The object is to get as many lines (and points) as you can before you stuff 
  71. it up. If you happen to eliminate 4 lines at once, (this is called a tetris, 
  72. hence the name) you get bonuses ect.. and higher score...

  76.         IBM PC 386 or above. (Preferably a 486 or above)
  77.         You need EMS loaded ie include this line in your config.sys
  78.                         DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386 RAM
  79.         A soundcard would be good too, 16bit stereo for best results.

  84. I've just enabled the playlist option, to cycle all your favourite mods 
  85. while you play.  Just edit the playlist.nov file to list all your favourite
  86. mods (with path, one mod per line).
  87.  
  88. To change the volume for the SOUND-FX use '-' & '+' (not the keypad ones)
  89. and to change the volume for MUSIC use '[' & ']'.
  90. To pause the game type 'p'.
  91. To See all this sort of stuff in the game press the F1 key.

  93. Also you can suppress the title screens type typing a paramater after 
  94. tetris.exe. anything will do just as long as it's something. eg. tetris :

  96. Things to come in the Registered version: (hopefully)
  97.  
  98.         Two player mode (much like the gameboy)
  99.         Menus and HiScore Table.
  100.         Lots more raytraced backdrops, not just the boring old ripple one.
  101.         Some pretty neat effects that I've been toying with,
  102.         and anything else I can think of by then.

  106. Some mod files just don't load for some reason. Whether it be memory or 
  107. whatever, I haven't been able to work it out completely, hopefully in the
  108. registered.  It doesn't really matter, it plays around 90% of all mods anyway
  109.  
  110. ~D~1~0 OTHER GAMES BY NOVALIGHT SOFTWARE(So Far)

  112. Noman's Land:  A two player battle ground, for deathmatch type play, in a post
  113. nuclear war type scene.  The goal is to destroy your opponent before he  
  114. destroys you.  Being armed with a machine gun, grenades, time-bombs, land 
  115. mines and cocktail bombs it's an all out masacre!  There's also a Helicopter 
  116. which can be a big edge over your opponent.  Give it a look, chances are 
  117. you'll find it the same place you found this game.
