  1. This disk contain 2 things, a selection of space sound files, and for
  2. those who do not have a sound card, the Microsoft speaker driver.
  3.  
  4. The speaker driver will not give you good quality sound, but it's a lot
  5. better than nothing.
  6.  
  7. To install the sound files:
  8. ---------------------------
  9.  
  10. 1. Change to your main windows directory, (normally c:\WINDOWS)
  11.  
  12.    Eg     C:
  13.           CD \WINDOWS
  14.  
  15. 2. From that drive and directory, run the SOUNDS program from the floppy
  16.    disk. For example, if the disk is in drive A type:
  17.  
  18.    A:SOUNDS
  19.  
  20.    This will unpack the files into your windows directory.
  21.  
  22. 3. To view the index, load the file SOUNDNDX.TXT into NOTEPAD.
  23.

  25. To install the speaker driver:
  26. ------------------------------

  28. 1. From WINDOWS run the control panel, then select DRIVERS.
  29.  
  30. 2. Click on ADD
  31.  
  32. 3. Select UNLISTED OR UPDATED DRIVER and press the OK button
  33.  
  34. 4. Insert the disk when prompted, or correct the drive name.
  35.  
  36. 5. Highlight the WAVE DRIVER, and click the OK button.
  37.  
  38. 6. Experiment with the speed and volume settings until things sound right.
  39.    (Note: You can adjust these later using SETUP from the DRIVERS item
  40.    in the control panel).

  42. 7. When you are happy, keep clicking OK to get back to the desktop.

  47. To associate the sound files with Windows Events:
  48. -------------------------------------------------

  50. 1. Run the CONTROL PANEL, then run the SOUNDS option.
  51.  
  52. 2. You will see a list of 'events', such as Windows Start, and another
  53.    list of .WAV files. To associate a sound with an event, click on the
  54.    event, then the wav file you want. You can press the TEST button to
  55.    hear the sound file.
  56.  
  57. 3. When you have done this for all the evnts click on OK.
  58.  
  59. 4. Note: Initially Windows is set up to use some sounds that are provided
  60.    with Windows, like chimes and drum rolls. This is what you will get unless
  61.    you pick the new .WAV files.
