  4. 1.    Introduction
  5.  
  6.     StarScape is a planetarium for Microsoft Windows that
  7. displays the stars and planets as charts or as a true sky
  8. view.  It also gives you information about them - such as
  9. their celestial co-ordinates, magnitude and spectral type -
  10. and tells you if they are visible from your location.  Star
  11. charts can be printed out on just about any printer supported
  12. by Windows.
  13.  
  14.     Unlike many other astronomical software packages,
  15. StarScape makes no claim to rigorous accuracy.  Don't use this
  16. program to calculate star positions to navigate by!  If you
  17. are interested in astronomy, though, and just want to see what
  18. is visible at a particular time, from a given location, then
  19. StarScape is for you.  It is one of the very few Windows
  20. astronomy programs that runs at an acceptable speed on modest
  21. hardware such as a 16MHz 80386SX.

  23.     StarScape for Windows requires an AT-compatible computer
  24. running in Windows Standard or 386 Enhanced mode, and at least
  25. 1Mb of free extended memory, in order to run.

  27. 2.    Installation
  28.  
  29.     StarScape's main files should be kept in their own
  30. directory.  These files are:
  31.  
  32.         STARSCPE.EXE
  33.         STARDAT1.DLL
  34.         STARDAT2.DAT
  35.         STARDAT3.DAT
  36.         STARSCPE.HLP
  37.  
  38.     The file called BWCC.DLL should be copied to the SYSTEM
  39. subdirectory of your Windows directory, unless a newer version of
  40. the file is already present there.  This file is used by many
  41. applications developed using Borland compilers, so check first
  42. that a later version of this file is not already present.

  45. 3.    Using StarScape
  46.  
  47.     Just double-click on the StarScape for Windows icon, and
  48. follow the instructions.  The title screen may be displayed
  49. for several seconds while the data is loaded - this is normal.

  51.     There is no manual for StarScape.  All the information you
  52. need to run the program is in the Help file - just click on
  53. Help and choose the topic you want.

  55. 4.    Licence Agreement

  57.     This software is the property of J M Technical Services.
  58. You are granted a licence to evaluate this software free of charge
  59. for a period of 28 days.  On the expiry of this period, you agree
  60. to either a) register the software (see file REGISTER.TXT) or b)
  61. delete the software from your system.
