  5. This directory contains publicly released images from observations by
  6. Hubble Space Telescope.  The images are made available by the
  7. Educational and Public Affairs Office of the Space Telescope Science
  8. Institute.
  9.  
  10. The images in this directory are in JPEG which supports up to 16.8 million 
  11. colors (24-bits).  Image files have names ending in ".jpeg".  All image data 
  12. are binary, so when transferring using ftp, make sure to set the transfer
  13. mode to "binary".

  15. The files ending in ".txt" are plain (ASCII) text containing
  16. description of the image having the same root file name.  Usually, the
  17. text is identical to that in the associated press release.
