  11. A heavily cratered surface is apparent in this photo of Saturn's
  12. satellite Tethys, taken Nov. 12, 1980, by Voyager 1 from a distance
  13. of 570,000 kilometers (354,000 miles). Other photos of Tethys
  14. showed the opposite hemisphere, dominated by what appears to be
  15. a large impact crater or hill. Tethys is about 1,000 kilometers
  16. (600 miles) in diameter and is composed largely of ice.
  17. Voyager 1 made its closest approach to Saturn Nov. 12, 1980, and
  18. is now en route out of the solar system. Voyager 2 will make its
  19. closest approach to Saturn Aug. 25, 1981, and will then continue
  20. on toward Uranus. It will arrive at that distant planet in
  21. January 1986. The Voyager Project is managed for NASA by
  22. the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, California.
