TO INSTALL
***************
IF NOTHING ELSE
***************
at the very least, read the following before proceeding:
********************************************************************************
Copy all the enclosed files into one directory and run the install program.
The default directory name is c:\ase7. Answer the questions in install
and once it is complete type ASE from your chosen directory. Use F1 for help.
e.g.
cd\ase7[Enter]
install[Enter]...............and answer any questions then press [enter]
ase[Enter]
will get you up and running.
********************************************************************************
For those with more time:
NOTES on your computer needs:
*1 CONFIG.sys should contain a FILES statement with a value greater
than 19
For example:
files=30
*2 The ASE.bat file supplied in the /ASE7 directory contains example
SET statements to change file locations for all system files.
For example:
set tl=C:\ase7\ase.lib ASE tournament library file
set asehelp=C:\ase7\ase7.hlp ASE help text file
set asecode=C:\ase7\ase.cde ASE code text file
cd\ase7
ase007
cd\
set tl=
set asehelp=
set asecode=
*3 If you use these SET statements, then a SHELL statement could be
required in the CONFIG.sys
For example:
shell=c:\command.com /e:1024 /p
*4 The country code in the CONFIG.sys file is used to supply the correct
format for date (day,month,year in Australia or month,day,year in
the U.S.A. etc.).
For example, in Australia:
country=061,,c:\dos\country.sys
or U.S.A.:
country=001,,c:\dos\country.sys
*5 Version 7 runs under MS-Dos 2.1 or greater (or equivalent PC-Dos or DR-Dos)
It will run under Windows as a text display (not GUI). Mouse is not supported.
A hard disk is desirable, though a floppy based system is possible. The
system occupies a little over 1.5 Megabyte of disk space. Data files will
occupy further space. 520Kbytes of free memory are required when running
the ASE Scorer under native DOS.
If you find you cannot trim your memory overheads and ASE Scorer will not
fit in memory (error 08 loading a program) then some more memory is obtained
by COPYing scrnio.sml to scrnio.dll. This reduces memory needs but the help
system is no longer available.
For those using extended memory the ASE Scorer will perform without
memory limitations and operate better using ASE007.ext. Rename this file to
ase007.exe. For those using OS/2 rename the ASE007.os2 to ase007.exe for
better results. The install program needs to be run under DOS or DOS partition
in OS/2.
NOTE: If you intend to use extended memory, some type of extended
memory driver, such as HIMEM.SYS which comes with DOS 5.0 or
QEMM, which you need to purchase separately, is required.
*6 The ASE Scorer MUST be installed using the INSTALL.exe program before
attempting to use it.
Then see "FIRST TIME USER" in the file ASE7.doc
