  6. Welcome to ASE Scorer Version 7 for scoring pairs and teams BRIDGE events
  7. using the IBM PC or clone running DOS, DOS Extended or OS/2 operating systems.

  9. NOTE: This is SHAREWARE software for the IBM PC or clone and is licensed
  10. for use for up to 30 days. Please register with ASE Computing to receive your
  11. user and registration numbers. See the registration screen for more
  12. details or see below. This is NOT FREE software. You have a moral and legal
  13. obligation to pay for registration.

  15.              In AUSTRALIA this version is for
  16. evaluation only and does not support any of the Australian Bridge Federation
  17. masterpoint rules. The commercial Australian version is available from A.B.F
  18. Marketing and the Grand Slam clubs.

  28. Copy all the enclosed files into one directory and run the install program.
  29. The default directory name is c:\ase7. Answer the questions in install
  30. and once it is complete type ASE from your chosen directory. Use F1 for help.

  35. install[Enter]...............and answer any questions then press [enter]

  46. *1    CONFIG.sys should contain a FILES statement with a value greater
  47.     than 19

  54.     SET statements to change file locations for all system files.

  77.     format for date (day,month,year in Australia or month,day,year in

  88. *5 Version 7 runs under MS-Dos 2.1 or greater (or equivalent PC-Dos or DR-Dos)

  90. It will run under Windows as a text display (not GUI). Mouse is not supported.
  91. A hard disk is desirable, though a floppy based system is possible. The
  92. system occupies a little over 1.5 Megabyte of disk space. Data files will
  93. occupy further space. 520Kbytes of free memory are required when running
  94. the ASE Scorer under native DOS.
  95.  
  96. If you find you cannot trim your memory overheads and ASE Scorer will not
  97. fit in memory (error 08 loading a program) then some more memory is obtained
  98. by COPYing scrnio.sml to scrnio.dll. This reduces memory needs but the help
  99. system is no longer available.

  101. For those using extended memory the ASE Scorer will perform without
  102. memory limitations and operate better using ASE007.ext. Rename this file to
  103. ase007.exe. For those using OS/2 rename the ASE007.os2 to ase007.exe for
  104. better results. The install program needs to be run under DOS or DOS partition
  105. in OS/2.

  107. NOTE:       If you intend to use extended memory, some type of extended
  108.        memory driver, such as HIMEM.SYS which comes with DOS 5.0 or
  109.        QEMM, which you need to purchase separately, is required.

  111. *6 The ASE Scorer MUST be installed using the INSTALL.exe program before
  112.     attempting to use it.

  143.     ASE Scorer Version 7 is neither free software nor is it in the
  144.     public domain. The software and its documentation and help, are
  145.     property of the author and may not be sold without written
  146.     permission from the author.

  149.     ASE Scorer version 7 is distributed as shareware. This means that
  150.     you are granted a limited license to use it for a period of 30
  151.     days. If you find it useful and decide to continue using it after
  152.     the trial period, registration is required.

  155.     Registered users will be granted a just-like-a-book license which
  156.     means a registered version of the software can be used by more
  157.     than one person and can be moved from one computer to another so
  158.     long as there is NO POSSIBILITY of it being used by two different
  159.     persons on two different computers at the same time, just like a
  160.     book can not be read by two different persons in two different
  161.     places at the same time.

  163. TERMS OF DISTRIBUTION :

  165.     Redistribution of ASE Scorer must include the software, its
  166.     documentation and help files, and all supplemental files

  172.        and/or colleagues if NO FEE is charged.

  175.     2. Electronic bulletin boards, whether they charge or do not

  177.        program for down loading as long as they do not charge any fee
  178.        in particular for the distribution of ASE Scorer.

  181.     3. Computer information services such as CompuServe (CIS), Genie,
  182.        etc., may post this software for their subscribers.

  184.     4. Non-commercial user groups and computer clubs may distribute
  185.        the programs to their members if the fee charged for the
  186.        diskette containing ASE Scorer does not exceed $10.

  188.     5. Disk vendors approved by the Association of Shareware
  189.        Professionals or disk vendors who explain the concept of
  190.        shareware in their ads that quote a price may distribute the
  191.        shareware version of ASE Scorer.

  201.         If you find the ASE Scorer useful and would like to continue
  202.         using the program please register. The fee is only $65.00 (US)
  203.         or equivalent such as $85.00 (Australian) or £40 (G.B.).

  208.            shareware version to a registered version. When a new release
  209.            is available all you need to do is to down load it from your
