  20.  **a. Help with Backgammon Deluxe**

  23.         There are many variations of the game of backgammon,
  24.         Backgammon Deluxe is one variation. While classical
  25.         backgammon starts with each player throwing one die
  26.         to determine who goes first, Backgammon Deluse allows
  27.         the human player to start the game by clicking on
  28.         either die.
  29.  
  30.         Each player then throws, or clicks on a die in turn.
  31.         A player moves his pieces according to the number on
  32.         the dice, starting with the number on the left die
  33.         then that of the right die.
  34.  
  35.         A player may move one piece the whole of their turn,
  36.         or move seperate pieces. If a player throws a double,
  37.         meaning the same number on both die, then they move
  38.         the number shown on one die four times. The player
  39.         has the option of moving one piece, or seperate
  40.         pieces.

  42.         The human player's pieces move in a counter-clockwise
  43.         direction, and the computer's pieces move in a
  44.         clockwise direction.
  45.  
  46.         A board position is considered blocked if two or
  47.         more opposing pieces are sitting at that position.
  48.         For example, if you wish to move one position over
  49.         and your opponent has two pieces at that position,
  50.         an error message will be displayed letting you
  51.         know that the move is an illegal move.
  52.  
  53.         You can however, move to a position in which your
  54.         opponent has only one piece. This move sends your
  55.         opponent to the center 'Bar'. On their next move,
  56.         a player with a piece on the bar must use one of
  57.         the die to re-enter the game starting at the first
  58.         postion on the opposing side. If the player can
  59.         not re-enter the piece on the bar, then they must
  60.         pass.

  62.         The ultimate goal of backgammon is to remove all
  63.         of your playing pieces from the board. You can
  64.         not remove pieces until all of your playing
  65.         pieces are in your inner table (the bottom right
  66.         conner). You remove pieces by moving the amount
  67.         on the die roll greater than the number of board
  68.         positions remaining. For exmaple, if a die shows
  69.         three and you click on a piece with only two board
  70.         postions remaining, that piece will be removed
  71.         from the board and placed in the reserve area.

  73.         The first player to remove all of their board
  74.         pieces wins the game. Enjoy.

  79.         To run Backgammon Deluxe, you'll need the following system:

  81.                 An IBM-compatible, 386 or better computer
  82.                 Two Megabytes of RAM
  83.                 A VGA monitor
  84.                 Windows 3.1, or Windows 95
  85.                 Hard Disk with two Megabytes free
  86.                 Mouse

  88.         You'll have more fun with these recommended additions:

  91.                 Four Megabytes of RAM

  93.  **c. Installation and Setup**

  96.         1. To get started with Backgammon Deluxe on a hard disk:
  97.                 a. Insert the Backgammon Deluxe disk in your
  98.                         floppy disk drive ('A', or 'B')
  99.                 b. From Windows 'run' A:\setup or B:\setup" and press
  100.                         Enter.
  101.                 c. Follow the screen directions.

  103.  **d. Starting Backgammon Deluxe**

  106.         To start the game, double click on the Backgammon Deluxe icon in
  107.         Windows.

  109.  **2. Troubleshooting & Technical Support**

  112.         If you have a problem, chances are you can fix it without
  113.         needing to get help. Try the following:
  114.  
  115.         If the game says you have insufficient memory, or if it crashes,
  116.         try rebooting without loading any TSR programs, such as your
  117.         disk cache.
  118.  
  119.         If the screen is to dark to see, try turning up the brightness on
  120.         your monitor.
  121.  
  122.         If you are unable to fix your problems, try contacting us via

  124.         your computer configuration and what you were trying to do when
  125.         you encountered the problem. Also include any error messages
  126.         that were displayed.
