  8.   Thank you for down-loading Four Rivers for Windows.

  10.   Four Rivers is a game for 1 person played with mah-jong pieces.  Mah-jong is
  11. played using 136 pieces, but Four Rivers requires 144 pieces.  These pieces are
  12. played randomly on a board and they are removed 2 pieces at a time.  A stage
  13. ends when all pieces are cleared.
  14.   To remove pieces, following rules must be satisfied:
  15.     1. Both pieces must have the same design
  16.     2. Selected pieces are next to each other
  17.                     OR
  18.        They may be connected by at most 3 straight lines on a cleared area.

  60. Installation ****************************************************************
  61.   After decompressing FORIV.LZH file in a directory, execute FORIV.EXE
  62. file from the File Manager or from the Program Manager (choose [FILE]-[RUN]).
  63. It is recommended that Four Rivers icon be placed in some group in the Program
  64. Manager.

  66. How to Play *****************************************************************
  67.   To Start the Game
  68.     Choose the [Start] button.  Pieces are placed on the board and timer
  69.     is started.
  70.   To Select a Piece to Clear
  71.     Click the left mouse button on a piece to clear.  It will turn blue.  To
  72.     deselect a piece, click the left mouse button on the same piece.
  73.   To Clear Pieces
  74.     After selecting a piece, select another piece with the same design.  If
  75.     they satisfy requirements, the first piece moves to the second piece and
  76.     they are cleared from the board.
  77.     Options such as time, undo, and advice may be set in the [File]-
  78.     [Options] dialog box.
  79.   Advice
  80.     If there does not seem to be any pieces that can be cleared, choose the
  81.     [Advice] button.  Pieces that can still be cleared are displayed yellow.
  82.     To remove these pieces, click the left mouse button.
  83.     Number of times [Advice] button may be used are set in the [File]-
  84.     [Options] dialog box.
  85.   Undo
  86.     Cleared pieces may be place back on the board by choosing the [Undo]
  87.     button.
  88.     Number of times[Undo] button may be used are set in the [File]-[Options]
  89.     dialog box.
  90.   [Sound/Flash]
  91.     Effects during the games may be changed by [Sound] and [Flash] buttons.
  92.     Choosing the [Sound] button plays WAV files while choosing the [Flash]
  93.     button flashes the window to notify game status.

  95. Options *********************************************************************
  96.   To change game options, select [File] from the menu and select [Options]
  97. from the pull-down menu.  An Options Setting dialog box is displayed. Change
  98. the options and choose the [OK] button.  Choosing the [Cancel] button cancels
  99. settings that have just been modified.
  100.  
  101.   Total Stage Time
  102.     The total time allowed to clear all the pieces from the board.
  103.     Allowed setting is from 300 seconds (5 min.) to 3600 seconds (1 hr.)
  104.     The default setting is 600 seconds (10 min.).
  105.     Uncheck this option to disable total stage timer.
  106.   Clear Piece Time
  107.     Allowed time to clear 1 set of pieces from a board.
  108.     Allowed setting is from 10 seconds to 99 seconds.
  109.     The default setting is 60 seconds (1 min.).
  110.     Uncheck this option to disable this timer.
  111.   Number of Advices Allowed
  112.     Number of times advice may be given.
  113.     Allowed setting is from 0 to 99 times.
  114.     The default setting is 5 times.
  115.     Uncheck this option for unlimited number of advice.
  116.   Number of Undo's Allowed
  117.     Number of times pieces may be placed back on the board.
  118.     Allowed setting is from 0 to 99 times.
  119.     The default setting is 5 times.
  120.     Uncheck this option for unlimited number of undo's.
  121.   Show Same Pieces
  122.     Change the color of pieces with the same design as a selected piece.
  123.     Uncheck this option to not show pieces of the same design.
  124.   Stop Timer when Minimized
  125.     Stop timers when Four Rivers game window is minimized.
  126.     Uncheck this option to continue timer count even when the Four Rivers
  127.     window is minimized.
  128.   Piece Speed
  129.     Set the speed at which a piece moves to the first selected piece to
  130.     be cleared.
  131.   Select Layout
  132.     This version of Four Rivers contains 5 piece layout.

  135.   Four Rivers for Windows may be freely distributed if the following
  136. conditions are obeyed: 
  137.     1. If it is to be copied to another forum or to another distribution
