Welcome to the TELECOM Discussion List
Hello,
I am the moderator/maintainer of the TELECOM discussion list.
In addition to the usual maintenance functions of updating the
list and keeping an archive, I also have responsibility for
composing the digest from the pending submissions, controlling
the daily volume of mail, and answering administrative requests.
You have now been added to TELECOM.
TELECOM is a spinoff from the HUMAN-NETS discussion list. Topics
relating to the telephone network and how it works, data transfer
and the switching equipment necessary to make it happen, modems,
and line drivers were starting to be discussed in HUMAN-NETS.
These side discussions began to overrun the bandwith of a single
mailing list. As the discussions became more technical and less
in line with "human network engineering", I moved the discussion
off HUMAN-NETS and onto a new list, TELECOM.
TELECOM is a digest list as are HUMAN-NETS and SF-LOVERS.
Your submissions for this digest should be addressed to
TELECOM@MIT-XX. For convenience and prompt handling,
administrative requests / problem reports / etc. should
be addressed to TELECOM-REQUEST@MIT-XX.
A complete record of the TELECOM discussions is maintained in the
list's archives. The current archives are divided into 5 files
covering the dates shown.
File on MIT-XX material distributed between
<TELECOM>VOLUME-1.TXT 12 June 1981 and 31 December 1981
<TELECOM>VOLUME-2.TXT 1 January 1982 and 31 December 1982
<TELECOM>VOLUME-3.TXT 1 January 1983 and 31 December 1983
<TELECOM>VOLUME-4.TXT 1 January 1984 and 30 June 1985
<TELECOM>VOLUME-5.TXT 1 July 1985 to 31 December 1986
<TELECOM>VOLUME-6.TXT 1 January 1987 to 17 May 1987
<TELECOM>VOLUME-7.TXT 18 May 1987 to 25 September 1987
(please note, the above file is in unix mail format).
<TELECOM>TELECOM.RECENT 26 September 1987 to Present.
Please note that you do need to login to FTP files from MIT-XX. We
provide an account named ANONYMOUS, which you log into with any
password (you must type a password). People who cannot obtain copies
of files themselves may request copies of the file by sending mail to
TELECOM-REQUEST@MIT-XX
There is little more that I can say about TELECOM by way of
introduction. At the moment it continues to grow and change
rapidly. I trust you will enjoy being a part of that growth.
Cheers,
JSol
