  2. The Telecom Archives is availale for your use. It is located at MIT
  3. and is available at least a few ways:
  4.  
  5. If you have a real-time Internet connection and are allowed to go
  6. off your local net, then you can use FTP as well as possibly gopher
  7. and web services.
  8.  
  9. You would issue the command:   ftp ftp.lcs.mit.edu
  10.                                login anonymous   (use name@site as password)
  11.                                cd telecom-archives
  12.            
  13. Once connected, you will see the main directory and the several sub-
  14. directories with files on various topics. All the back issues of
  15. TELECOM Digest since 1981 are filed in the back.issues sub-directory
  16. beginning with years such as '1987' at the top.
  17.  
  18. For gopher and web services, consult the instructions for those programs.
  19.  
  20. If you prefer, you are welcome to use the Telecom Archives Email Infor- 
  21. mation Service instead. Return mail to Internet addresses is usually
  22. accomplished within a minute or two. Sites using UUCP/other networks
  23. will get their responses back by email in due course, as mail is deliv-
  24. ered at their site.

  26. To use the Telecom Archives Email Service:
  27.  
  28.              send email to:  tel-archives@ftp.lcs.mit.edu
  29.  
  30. The subject does not matter.
  31.  
  32. In the text of the message, enter these commands on your first use
  33. of the system so you will get help by return mail:
  34.  
  35. REPLY yourname@site      **This must be the first command**
  36. HELP
  37. INFO
  38. INDEX
  39. END                      **This must be the last command**
  40.  
  41. You will get back three items in the mail: a help file, an information
  42. file, and an index to the files in the Telecom Archives. You can then
  43. order additional items as desired, as well as search the master index
  44. to Telecom Digest for authors and subject titles since 1989.

  46. The help and info files will explain how to use the Archives Email
  47. Service to its fullest advantage.

  49. Happy hunting and exploring!  Twelve year's worth of stuff will be a
  50. lot for you to go through.
