  2.                           INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
  3.  
  4. Welcome to the TEMPRA MEDIA CD-ROM! This CD-ROM begins your journey into
  5. the world of TEMPRA multimedia. Throughout these instructions, we
  6. designate a drive letter for the hard disk (C:) and the CD-ROM (D:). Replace
  7. these letters with the appropriate letter of your particular drive. On
  8. this CD-ROM you will find the following demonstrations and programs:
  9.  
  10. TEMPRA Vision   Self-running/interactive story module demonstrating
  11.                 TEMPRA Vision educational product with a TEMPRA PRO
  12.                 primer. CD-ROM contains the story module only. Special
  13.                 edition TEMPRA GIF and TEMPRA SHOW programs are installed
  14.                 from diskette. (Requires SuperVGA card and 35Mb disk space.)
  15.                 
  16.                 CD-ROM directory: D:\VISION
  17.                 Hard disk directory: C:\VISION
  18.                 Command line: VISDEMO (self-running version of the entire
  19.                 story module-great for in-store demos), STORY (interactive 
  20.                 version of the entire story module), DAYFARM (A Day on the 
  21.                 Farm), UGBUZZ (Ugh and Buzz), BUZZVAC (Buzz Takes a 
  22.                 Vacation), and PPLAY (Paint and Play).

  63. PROSONUS        MusicBytes music and sound effects library from Prosonus.
  64.                 Audio files are in VOC, WAV, and MIDI formats in 5, 15, and 
  65.                 30 second versions. The installation puts only the 5-second
  66.                 VOC files onto the hard drive. To load other audio files
  67.                 onto your hard drive, simply copy them from the CD-ROM into
  68.                 the desired directory. (Requires Sound Blaster compatible
  69.                 audio card and 11Mb disk space.)

  76. You can run these programs and demos from the CD, but the speed won't be as
  77. fast as it should be. If you have the disk space, we recommend installing the
  78. programs on your hard drive to use them. You can install any of the programs
  79. or demos at any time by repeating the installation instructions below. All 
  80. programs and demos install to default directories. If you don't have
  81. enough disk space, the install program aborts.

  84. CD-ROM INSTALLATION
  85. To install the TEMPRA Vision story module, the TEMPRA PRO primer, the TEMPRA
  86. Access program, or the MADEMO or USERDEMO sequences, follow these instruc-
  87. tions:
  88.  
  89. 1.  Insert the TEMPRA MEDIA CD in the CD-ROM directory
  90.     (probably D:\) and type install.
  91. 2.  The "Welcome to the TEMPRA MEDIA CD" screen pops up.
  92. 3.  Continue reading the information until you see the screen:
  93.     "Which of the following programs would you like to install?"
  94. 4.  You can choose either to load TEMPRA Access or move the highlight bar
  95.     to one of the following: 
  96.         TEMPRA Vision
  97.         PROSONUS Music and Sound Effects
  98.         In-store TEMPRA Demonstrations 
  99.     (You can only load one program or demonstration at a time, so just 
  100.     repeat this procedure when you are ready to install another program 
  101.     or demo.)
  102. 5.  If you choose In-store TEMPRA Demonstrations, you'll see:  
  103.         TEMPRA PRO Primer
  104.         TEMPRA MADEMO
  105.         TEMPRA USERDEMO
  106. 6.  Choose the demonstration you want to load and follow the installation 
  107.     instructions.

  110. TEMPRA VISION
  111. Welcome to TEMPRA Vision -- the multimedia product that will take you into
  112. the 21st Century!
  113.  
  114. Installing Special Edition in the TEMPRA Vision Package
  115. The Special Edition of TEMPRA GIF that comes in TEMPRA Vision is 8-bit,
  116. which uses up to 256 colors. To install the complete TEMPRA Vision program,
  117. including the Special Edition TEMPRA GIF and TEMPRA SHOW and the story
  118. module, follow these instructions:
  119.  
  120. 1.  Put the TEMPRA MEDIA CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive.
  121. 2.  Put the TEMPRA Special Edition disk that came with TEMPRA Vision in the
  122.     floppy disk drive and type A:INSTALL or B:INSTALL and press [Enter].
  123.     Follow the instructions on the computer screen.
  124. 3.  The default drive for installing TEMPRA Vision is drive C. If you want
  125.     to install TEMPRA Vision on a hard drive other than drive C, use your
  126.     cursor keys to move the flashing cursor to select the drive you want,
  127.     then press the [Enter] key.
  128.     TEMPRA Vision installs into the C:\VISION directory without giving you
  129.     an option to change it.
  130. 4.  The installation program checks to see if you have enough space on your
  131.     hard drive to install TEMPRA Vision (TEMPRA Vision requires about 35Mb).
  132.     If the space is available, all TEMPRA Vision files are installed on your
  133.     hard drive in the directory C:\VISION. If you don't have enough disk
  134.     space, you need to select a story from the story module to be copied
  135.     onto your hard drive.
  136. 5.  Use the cursor keys to move the flashing bar to highlight the story you
  137.     want to install and then press the [Enter] key. The files for the story
  138.     you select are copied to the hard drive into the C:\VISION directory.
  139. 6.  To start the stories from the C:\VISION> prompt, type the appropriate
  140.     command shown below:
  141.  
  142.     VISDEMO  (a self-running version of the entire story module)
  143.     STORY    (an interactive version of the entire story module)
  144.     DAYFARM  (A Day on the Farm)
  145.     UGBUZZ   (Ugh and Buzz)
  146.     BUZZVAC  (Buzz Takes a Vacation)
  147.     PPLAY    (Paint and Play)

  149. Installing TEMPRA Special Edition from the Book "Multimedia: Making It Work"
  150. If you have the book "Multimedia: Making It Work," it includes a 24-bit
  151. TEMPRA Special Edition that allows you to edit images in up to 16.7 million
  152. colors. If you want to use the TEMPRA Special Edition that came with the  
  153. book, follow these instructions:
  154.  
  155. 1.  Put the TEMPRA MEDIA CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive.
  156. 2.  Put the TEMPRA Special Edition disk that came in the TEMPRA Vision box
  157.     in the floppy disk drive and type A:INSTALL2 or B:INSTALL2 and press 
  158.     [Enter]. Follow the instructions on the computer screen.
  159. 3.  The default drive is drive C. If you want to install TEMPRA Vision on
  160.     a hard drive other than drive C, use your cursor keys to move the 
  161.     flashing cursor to select the drive you want, then press the [Enter]
  162.     key.
  163. 4.  The default directory is C:\TEMPRA. When the program asks if you want
  164.     to change the directory, use your backspace key to erase \TEMPRA and
  165.     then type \VISION and press the [Enter] key.
  166. 5.  After you install the TEMPRA Special Edition from the book, you need to
  167.     copy some files from the CD-ROM into the C:\VISION directory for the
  168.     story module to work properly. To make sure you are in the right 
  169.     directory, type CD\VISION and press the [Enter] key. Make sure that the
  170.     TEMPRA MEDIA CD is still in the CD-ROM drive.
  171.         Type COPY D:\VISION\*.RDS and press the [Enter] key.
  172.         Type COPY D:\VISION\*.INF and press the [Enter] key.   
  173.         Type COPY D:\VISION\*.CFG and press the [Enter] key.   
  174.         Type COPY D:\VISION\*.PTH and press the [Enter] key.

  177. TEMPRA ACCESS
  178. If you want to use a Kodak Photo CD to make stories using pictures of
  179. your family that are stored on CD-ROM you will definitely want TEMPRA
  180. Access on your computer. This CD contains 24 Kodak Photo CD images you
  181. can load using TEMPRA Access. You can then save the images to hard disk
  182. in any file format available to use in stories and graphics. TEMPRA Access
  183. is a 24-bit program that takes advantage of the photographic quality of
  184. the images stored on the CD-ROM. If you are using the 8-bit TEMPRA Special
  185. Edition, the Photo CD images won't look as good as they will on a hi-color
  186. VGA bard. If 24-bit capability is important to you, we recommend you use
  187. the 24-bit Special Edition that came with the book "Multimedia: Making It
  188. Work" or that you upgrade to TEMPRA PRO.
  189.  
  190. To load images from Photo CD:
  191. 1.  In TEMPRA Access, move the cursor to the DSK menu and press the left
  192.     mouse button
  193. 2.  Select Photo CD from the drop-down menu.
  194. 3.  A contact sheet appears on the screen showing miniatures of all the 
  195.     images on the CD.
  196. 4.  Select an image to load.
  197. 5.  A menu appears for you to select the size you want the image to be.
  198.     Select the size you want and press the left mouse button.
  199. 6.  The image loads onto the screen in the selected size.
  200.  
  201. To save images onto disk:
  202. 1.  Once the image is loaded on the screen, you can save it in any of the
  203.     available file formats.
  204. 2.  Move the cursor to the DSK menu and press the left mouse button.
  205. 3.  Select Files from the drop-down menu.
  206. 4.  Make sure the Images button is highlighted and that you are in the
  207.     C:\VISION\PIC directory (or another directory you want to save your
  208.     images in).
  209. 5.  Select the file format you want to save the image as. If you are using
  210.     the 8-bit TEMPRA GIF, you will want to save your image in 8-bit so
  211.     you can edit it later. If you have a 24-bit TEMPRA GIF, you can save
  212.     the image in either 8-bit, 16-bit, or 24-bit and edit it later in
  213.     TEMPRA GIF.
  214.     If you know you will use the image in TEMPRA SHOW for a story or
  215.     presentation, make sure you save the file as either 8-bit PCX or
  216.     16-bit TGA.
  217. 6.  Move the cursor to the box above the list of files in the directory
  218.     and press the left mouse button. The box changes color.
  219. 7.  Type the name you want to give the picture.
  220. 8.  Move the cursor to the Save button and press the left mouse button.
  221.     The menus disappear while the image is being saved. When the menus
  222.     come back, you image has been saved on the disk in the new file format.
