* What should I find in this package? *
The following files should be included:
PCX2EXE.EXE - The .PCX image to .EXE file converting utility
PCX2EXE.DOC - This documentation file
CATALOG.DOC - The latest Birken Software catalog
* What is PCX-TO-EXE? *
PCX-TO-EXECUTABLE will take a standard 320x200, 256 color (VGA), image in
PC Paintbrush's .PCX file format and convert it to an executable file (.EXE).
This is the unregistered shareware version of this utility. You may use
this utility for up to a 30 day trial period. If you still want to use it
after this point, please register.
* How do I use this utility? *
Birken Software's PCX-TO-EXECUTABLE Converter is fully self explanatory.
To convert a .PCX image file to an .EXE file you must have the file
PCX2EXE.EXE in the same directory as your image. Or if you have a utility
directory in the path, move PCX2EXE.EXE to that directory so that it can be
used anywhere on your drive. Now type at the DOS prompt:
D:\>PCX2EXE [your .PCX file name here] [your .EXE file name here]
Make sure that you also include the file name extensions (.PCX and .EXE).
* What do the error messages mean? *
There are three possible error messages that you may encounter:
1) "Cannot locate .PCX file: so-and-so" error
This message will appear if you do not have the .PCX file in the path
or same directory as PCX2EXE.EXE, you mistyped the name of the .PCX file,
or you did not include the correct extension to each file.
2) "Not a valid .PCX file" error
This message will appear if you specify a non-PCX file when you input
the .PCX file name.
3) "Loader can only handle 320x200 256 color .PCX files" error
This message will appear if the .PCX file in which you want to convert
is not a 320x200 resolution image, in 256 colors.
