TEALEAFS(tm) 2.2 Program, ISBN 1 884384 31 5
TEALEAFS(tm) 2.2 Manual, ISBN 1 884384 32 3
OVERVIEW
* TEALEAFS(tm) is a wonderful little (inexpensive) SHAREWARE program that
draws never-ending patterns on your computer screen, kind of like that
expensive screen saver you've been thinking about buying. You can
specify your preferences for the display parameters, so each display
is personal. Finger Paint for the Kids; Pattern Association; Relaxation
for the Overworked Mind and Eyes; Abstract Art for the Non-Technical;
or Office Computer Screen Security while you're away.
* TEALEAFS(tm) makes a great attention-getter for the PC displayed in the
window or behind the counter of any business, or a, "free with
purchase", item. Send TEALEAFS(tm) as a greeting card to your friends.
* TEALEAFS(tm) runs on the PC and PC compatibles, DOS 3.0 or higher.
No graphics card is required to get the extended ASCII displays.
To install the program type A:INSTALL
To run, type TEALEAFS /S /T & hit ENTER key.
Use the F1 key for calling up the user customizing menus.
* Registration fee is $21.95 (California Residents Please Add Sales
Tax), plus $5.00 for Shipping and Handling. Use F6 to print an invoice.
* Send your check, payable to "EUGENE L. WOODS, PE/EE", to:

TYPICAL INSTALLATION SEQUENCE
- Insert floppy in drive A:
- Type A:install
- Complete the setup screen
- Select A on options menu for the patterns menu
- Select the pattern of your choice
- Press ESC to exit the patterns menu
- Press ESC to exit the options menu
- TEALEAFS(tm) will exit to the DOS prompt
After the installation sequence is complete, TEALEAFS(tm) will have been
installed as a Terminate-and-Stay-Resident (TSR) program for this session.
It will automatically activate itself after the user-selectable timeout
period with no keyboard activity. In addition, the user can activate
TEALEAFS(tm) at any time by pressing the Alt and T keys simultaneously.
Once installed, TEALEAFS(tm) may be removed from memory by pressing
the Esc key while TEALEAFS(tm) is active and drawing patterns.
GENERAL HINTS WHEN USING TEALEAFS(TM) AS A TSR
Terminate-and-Stay-Resident (TSR) programs do have some quirks which need
to be considered. Here are a few helpful tips to apply when using
the TEALEAFS(tm) program in its TSR mode.
DON'T use <ESC> to unload TEALEAFS(tm), if it has popped up over another
program. Instead, press any key to push it back into the background.
This will happen if you have loaded another program since loading
TEALEAFS(tm) as a TSR, then TEALEAFS(tm) pops up and starts drawing
patterns.
It's normal for this to happen -- the only tricky part is to be sure
to just press a key, so that TEALEAFS(tm) will go back to sleep.
Only use the <ESC> key to unload TEALEAFS(tm) if it was the most
recently loaded program.
DON'T unload TEALEAFS(tm), if another TSR has been loaded since TEALEAFS(tm)
was loaded as a TSR.
DON'T load TEALEAFS(tm) as a TSR more than once, without unloading the
previous copy first.
DON'T load other TSR programs which use the same hot-key (ALT-T) as
the TEALEAFS(tm) program does.
DO unload your TSR programs in the same order in which they were loaded.
THE INSTALL.BAT AUTO-INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
The INSTALL.BAT file assumes that the TEALEAFS(tm) release disk is in
drive A:, and that you want to install TEALEAFS.EXE in a directory of
its own named \TEALEAFS on your C: drive. If you desire to install
TEALEAFS.EXE somewhere else, use the DOS copy command to copy it there.
For example, to install TEALEAFS.EXE from the release disk in your
A: drive to your \bin directory on your D: drive, along with
your other utilities, type the following command:
COPY A:TEALEAFS.EXE D:\BIN
SETTING UP YOUR SYSTEM SO TEALEAFS(tm) AUTOMATICALLY LOADS AT STARTUP TIME
The value of a TSR program is that it resides in memory until you need it.
To setup your system so that TEALEAFS(tm) is always in memory after you
turn on your computer, add the following lines to your AUTOEXEC.BAT file:
<drive>:
cd \<directory>
TEALEAFS /T
FRACTAL EQUATIONS
The FRACTAL EXPLORER display option will provide you with hours of
fascinating and interesting color displays, generated by the traditional
Fractal equation set. Since the nature of the Fractal display is that
the color of each pixel is determined by an iterative process, it follows
that these fractal displays take some time to develop. It's fun to
watch these patterns develop while eating lunch, for example.
GENERAL HINTS AND SHORT CUT KEYS
While TEALEAFS(tm) is displaying patterns, you may press any of the
following keys to achieve the desired results:
F1 : Brings up the OPTIONS menu. From here, you can select a new pattern
(F8 is an even quicker way to select a new pattern), enable/disable
sounds, slow down, speed up, select more or less display colors,
enable/disable erase tail mode, display a short cuts list, change menu
colors, display the copyright / license agreement, change registration
info, or print a registration form / invoice. Press ESC to exit this
menu, and return to drawing patterns.
F2 : Changes the character used to draw patterns, when drawing any of
the character-based patterns. These are the first 4 patterns on
the patterns menu.
F3 : Enables/disables erase tail mode, for those displays that do that.
F4 : Enables/disables the use of the brighter display colors.
F6 : Prints an invoice, so you can register TEALEAFS(tm).
YOU DEFINITELY WANT TO DO THIS :-)
F7 : Clears the screen.
F8 : Brings up the PATTERNS menu, so you can select a different random
pattern for your viewing enjoyment. As soon as you select a pattern
from this menu, TEALEAFS(tm) begins drawing this new pattern.
F9 : Enables/disables audio mode. Audio mode causes a random sound to
be played every time the screen clears. This generally happens once
every few minutes.
+ : (plus) key - will speed up the display. Once the display is going as
fast as it can, additional presses of the + key cause
a beep.
- : (minus) key - will slow down the display. Once the display is going as
slow as it can, additional presses of the - key cause
a beep. Note -- You'll probably get very bored before you
get anywhere close to the beep.
ESC : Will cause TEALEAFS(tm) to terminate. If it was installed as a TSR,
then it will also attempt to unload itself. This may be bad, if
another program or TSR has been loaded since TEALEAFS(tm). This is
a common problem with TSRs, and the only correct action is to avoid
attempting to unload TEALEAFS(tm) until you have quit any programs
you have loaded after it, and it is the most recently loaded program.
ANY OTHER KEY - Will cause TEALEAFS(tm) to push back into the background,
if it was loaded as a TSR. Otherwise, TEALEAFS(tm) will terminate.
INVOKING TEALEAFS(TM)
The TEALEAFS(tm) program is invoked with the following command:
TEALEAFS [ /T ] [ /P ] [ /S ] [ /B ]
COMMAND LINE OPTIONS:
/T - TSR mode
/P - Prompt before going TSR
/S - Setup mode
/B - Monochrome extended ASCII displays only
(no graphics adaptor necessary)
USING TEALEAFS(tm) WITH WINDOWS(tm)
TEALEAFS(tm) runs well as a DOS application under Windows(tm). It looks best,
when set up for full-screen operation.
You can set up an ICON to allow you to run TEALEAFS(tm) under Windows(tm).
Set the working directory to refer to the directory where you installed
the TEALEAFS(tm) program. Use the TEALEAFS.ICO file for the ICON.
A TEALEAFS.PIF file has also been provided. You should use the PIF editor
to edit it, to refer to the working directory where TEALEAFS(tm) was
actually installed.
At this time, you cannot set up TEALEAFS(tm) to automatically pop up over
Windows(tm) after a predetermined time. This feature is currently available
only when running TEALEAFS(tm) under DOS.
