GALAXY Version 01
KEYWORDS
galaxy gravity star simulation Windows screen saver game
GALAXY ABSTRACT
Simulates stellar motion under the influence of gravity.
Create a field of stars, then watch how they pull and
accelerate each other. Vary number of stars (2-1000),
initial velocities, gravity constant. Watch how attractive
forces send stars careening in new directions. Watch large
patterns evolve over time (millions of years per minute).
Doubles as Windows screen saver. Fast CPU advisable.
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
80386/486, Microsoft Windows 3.1 running in 386 enhanced mode.
Will be very slow unless you have hardware floating point
(DX type CPU or math coprocessor).
INCLUDED FILES
readme.txt 2K (this file)
galaxy.exe 54K executable program file
galaxy.hlp 27K online help file
galaxy.ini tiny default parameter file
*.ini tiny several optional parameter files
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Unzip the distribution file GALAXY.ZIP, using an output directory
of your choice (e.g. c:\games\galaxy). The above files are created.
GALAXY.ZIP may then be deleted to save space.
If you wish to use GALAXY from other than this directory, use a
directory that is included in your PATH environment parameter.
From Windows File Manager, double-click the file GALAXY.EXE to
start the program. Full instructions are now available from the
online HELP menu.
KNOWN DEFFICIENCIES
If the number of stars is large, and especially if your CPU is a
slow one, the response to menu commands is sluggish. This problem
persists in spite of the liberal use of Yield() calls. I don't
know why. Just wait a few seconds for the menu to respond.
REGISTRATION VIA COMPUSERVE
GO SWREG and select "register shareware". When requested, enter
registration ID 881. Fee of US $10.00 will be booked to your
Compuserve account. Future versions may be downloaded without
added fees.
