Welcome to NILBUILD!! This program automates the process of IMPORTING
icons (.ICO files) into .NIL libraries. New for version 2 is the ability
to EXPORT icons from .NIL as well as from .EXE and .DLL files.
NILBUILD is freeware and may be freely copied and distributed in its orignal
form for personal use. NILBUILD may NOT be used in a commercial application
or resold or bundled with other software without permission.
Improvements over Version 1.0
=============================
- listboxes for file/directory selection
- creates new libraries
- automatic repair of .ICO files if NFIXICO present
- automatic check of system GDI resources
- allows EXPORT as well as IMPORT of .ICO files
- allows "DRAG & DROP" as well as "FILE SELECT" operation
- on-line HELP facility
- automatic report generation
- allows file masking from source directories
- runs approximately two and one half times faster!
System Requirements
===================
User must have Windows 3.0 and Norton Desktop for Windows 2.0 or better.
NORTON must be set up as the shell for DRAG & DROP operation. The file
ICONEDIT.EXE must be located in the Norton Desktop directory. For FILE SELECT
operation, the NDW directory must contain BATCHRUN.EXE. For report and
library viewing, the NDW directory must also contain NVIEWER.EXE. CLIPBRD.EXE
must be present in the main WINDOWS directory. The NDW directory must be
defined in the [Configuration] section of the NDW.INI file.
Installation
============
NILBUILD.EXE can be placed in ANY directory. However, I recommned that it be
placed in the Norton Desktop directory with the other files. for proper
operation NILBUILD should be launched from a desktop or group icon. The
easiest way to create an icon is to "drag" the NILBUILD.EXE file out of a
drive window and "drop" it onto any icon group or empty space on the desktop.
The NILBUILD icon will appear automatically. (See Norton Desktop User's
Manual, pages 5-16 and 2-22.)
Additionally, the following files should be copied into the NDW directory:
NILBUILD.SUB
NILBUILD.HLP
NFIXICO.PIF
IMPORTANT!!! - Approximately 10% of all public domain icons contain an
incompatibility which prevents them from being read by the Norton Icon
Editor. Therefore, it is HIGHLY recommended - almost essential - that you
obtain the file FIXICO.ZIP from the NDW section of the Symantec BBS at
1-408-973-9834 (9600 baud) or 973-9598 (2400 baud). Extract the file
NFIXICO.EXE and place it in your NDW directory along with NFIXICO.PIF, which
is supplied with NILBUILD. If BOTH of these files are present, NILBUILD will
automatically run NFIXICO to remove most incompatibilities.
Operation
=========
This doc file contains introductory and installation information only. For
operational and procedural information, a very extensive help file,
NILBUILD.HLP is included. To view the help file, launch NILBUILD from its
startup icon and click on the HELP button. You may also double-click on the
NILBUILD.HLP file from the file manager.
