ROSSLER.FLI
160x100 FLI
Created by Tom Rathborne - 1993.07.01 - a Totally Unlimited production!
If you use this for anything other than a minute of hypnotic joy,
recognition would be appreciated where possible. If you don't want to give
me credit, that's okay too.
Suggested credit: "3D Rossler by Tom Rathborne of Totally Unlimited"
Totally Unlimited is my little company name. You can't have it.
*-----> Credits
* 3D Rossler attractor: FRACTINT 18.0 by The Stone Soup Group
* Image scaling: Image Alchemy 1.5.1 by Handmade Software
* FLI production: DTA 1.8g by David K. Mason
Nice programs all around!
*-----> About this animation
This wasn't too hard to do. Just a matter of grabbing 36 frames of the
Rossler attractor at 320x200. Manual labour! I used a screen grabber
program to save the images.
Notice how I captured each image WITH a zoom box (magenta), so you have a
stationary "reference box" in the background. When I scaled the images down
to 160x100, the box became a subtle-but-solid outline in the background. I
think it adds a great deal of depth. I got DTA to add a few in-between
frames for me, so it may be a little sluggish on the slower VGAs out there!
Share and enjoy!
*-----> Other neat stuff
For you MODule (you know, those originally-Amiga music files!) freaks out
there, I've created MODDIR which does a directory of MOD files, displaying
the titles of the songs beside them. For 4DOS/NDOS users, I created
MODNAMES which makes a DESCRIPT.ION file for your MODs, so that 4DOS/NDOS
will display the titles beside the filenames when you're doing a 1-column
directory.
Neat, huh? There's no trick to it - the title is stored in the first 20
bytes of the MOD file!
Of course, I've only uploaded them to BBSes here in London, Ontario, so if
someone could suggest a big MOD BBS to upload them to I'd be eternally
grateful.
Look for TUMODN10.ZIP and TUMODD10.ZIP!
*-----> Contacting the author (pretty please?)
Most of the interesting fractals/ray-tracing scene is several expen$ive
long distance calls away from me - but I still appreciate any feedback!
Maybe if I'm bored in the future I'll slap together some more gripping
animations. Not getting a single response to this would also be quite a
setback... ...hint hint
You can probably track me down somewhere electronically. Address any
messages to "Tommy Rathborne" - my name macro hasn't changed in years. ;)
I try not to call long distance too often or for too long, so...
* NANet, IntelecNet:
Star Trek conferences would be your best bet! I lurk. :)
I like to call Ideal Studies (and lurk here too) when I can, to check for
the latest in fractal software, toys, etc.
* Ideal Studies BBS (& the RIME Fractals conference) - (508) 757-1806
I'm also on YCCMR & TGA, but the former doesn't seem to have a QWK door and
the latter is pretty boring after your trial membership runs out - and I
can barely afford to call, let alone pay. Not that I'm complaining, though.
My snail mail address, just in case you're less network-nimble than me,
which would be a feat in itself:

*-----> A final note
I think I spent more time of this document than I did on the animation!
