TECHNICAL BULLETIN 3/25/91 jcr
CD-ROM Supplement: CD Net 3.0, Meridian Data
This bulletin outlines the configuration of Meridian Data's CD Net
Server with CD Net version 3.01 software. CD Net supports up to 14
half-height CD-ROM drives (the model 100NC supports up to 8 CD-ROM
drives), and supports the High Sierra, ISO 9660 disc formats.
Installing the CD Net Tower
1. Install the CD-ROM drives as noted in "Server Tower Hardware -
Reference and Installation" manual.
2. Create a boot disk which will contain the following files:
command.com, ae2.exe, ailanbio.exe (ae2, ailanbio provided by
Artisoft) server.exe, server.cfg, hscsirom.sys, scsiwd70.sys
(these files provided by Meridian)
3. On this boot disk, create an Autoexec.bat file which loads the
Artisoft drivers and Meridian's Server software (IE: ae2,
ailanbio, set hx=/noswap, server).
4. Create a Config.sys file with the following line:
device=scsiwd70.sys d=hscsirom.sys /r:1 /s:1
5. Boot the server and install the discs in the caddies. The
server should be at the Status Screen.
6. Set up each workstation so that the following is loaded in the
config.sys file:
device=\mcdnet.sys /d:cdnetrom /s:1 /u:1
(in this configuration /s:1 and /u:1 specify one server and 1
drive letter)
7. Set up each workstation so that the following is loaded after
the Artisoft network files:
mscdex /d:cdnetrom
set cdservers=1
set cdnetdrvr=cdnetrom
set datafile=artisoft.dat
8. Once installed, each workstations should have a redirected
drive through MSCDEX to the CD Net Tower. Nothing should be
done through the LANtastic network to share the CD Net Tower,
as this is handled specifically by Meridian's software.
Operation
The CD Net Server can be accessed on the network through menu
software or though a command line utility called CMOUNT. I.E.:
CMOUNT /I0:ID# /O {Where /I is the ID as displayed in CD Status
CMOUNT /N0:ID# /O {Where /N is the Label as displayed in CD
Status
Earlier versions of the menu software were reported to have
problems with the network. Meridian Data has verified that these
problems have been corrected with version 3.01.
CD Status will display the current status of the CD-ROM drives.
Both the ID and Label should appear in the drive status box on the
right side of the screen. Some discs have no label, however, a disc
ID will always appear.
SUMMARY
If a unique problem arises which we are unable to resolve either
through initial phone contact or through this bulletin, please
