| | Gomen nasai concerning the delay on this edition of the National
| | ANIME BBS WATCH. A lot of last minute changes and information kept
| | coming in. I'll try to be earlier with the seventh edition to make
| | it up to all of you. In the meantime, I wanted to mention that the
| | next edition will center on articles concerning the proposed Anime
| | Net that's been discussed. There use to be a Anime Net that was the
| | exchange of anime files between, I believe: TOMCAT BBS, Anime Archive,
| | NUL and 2032. My memory may be a little foggy about that as this was
| | a chat conversation with Donna Rule on TOMCAT BBS over a year ago. So
| | if people would like to submit proposals to me at any of my net
| | addresses below I'd be happy to put them in the NABW7.

| | In the previous edition of the National ANIME BBS WATCH the following
| | BBSes were welcomed as new area codes: the Portal to Infinity: Indiana
| | (317), Beyond the Pale: Kansas (913), MetroNet: Maryland (410), the
| | After School Huddle: Nevada (702) DISCONNECTED, The Mounties BBS: North
| | Carolina (704), and TECHXTSY: Texas (806).

| | This month I'd like to welcome some newer area codes: BeekerBox BBS:
| | Saskatchewan (306), AREA 88 and Midas Touch: Illinois (312), The Meeting
| | Place and Kuragari BBS: New York (315), The Bear BBS!: Alberta (403),
| | PrimeTime BBS and EVERGREEN ONE: Washington (509), The Nightmare BBS:
| | Oklahoma (918) and Oblique Strategies: North Carolina (919). I'd also
| | like to welcome two INTERNATIONAL additions to the NABW: MegaTokyo 2033
| | AUSTRALIA and IMS-NET JAPAN.
| |
| | If someone from one of the BBSes knows of other BBSes in your area
| | code that have anime SIG or conference please get in contact with me at
| | one of the net addresses below. Your information could help another
| | modeming anime fan find a BBS in their local calling area and a new
| | source to get answers to all those questions they've always had.

| | STATISTICS and CONFERENCES
| |
| | There was drop of 22 BBSes since the July edition. There was a gain
| | of 74 new anime related BBSes.
| |
| | Fidonet showed a strong jump of 56 BBSes joining the anime eCho.
| | This may sound incredible that so many BBSes carry the anime echo, but
| | you never know what BBSes are carrying the anime echo unless someone
| | posts a message from that particular BBS. This is probably the single
| | most bothersome thing about being on the fidonet backbone. There's just
| | no way to know what BBSes are carrying the anime eCho conference.
| |
| | WWIVLink showed a loss in BBSes carrying the Comics and Japanimation
| | Conference. This may be the result of independent conferences for Comics
| | and Japanimation showing up on WWIVLink's conference list. I will try
| | get more information about the new conference and find out if this is
| | the reason for the drop in WWIVLink BBSes carrying the Comics and
| | Japanimation conference.

| | WWIVNet did have an increase in BBSes joining thr Japanimation
| | conference, but WWIVNet doesn't require taglines that could carry the
| | phone number of the BBS. Many of the node lines on the conferences show
| | UNKNOWN making it difficult to directly e-mail that BBS for information.
| | The result is that some of the newer WWIVNet BBSes are unlisted in this
| | edition of the National ANIME BBS WATCH.

| | RelayNet has been having some recent difficulties due to the change
| | to a new packet mailing system. The problem has occured because some
| | of the major HUBS amd BBSes haven't made the switch over resulting in
| | some areas being cut-off from getting their message packets and direCt
| | net-mail. This problem will probably be corrected ny this time. Also,
| | Mike Ling was unable to send me an updated list of BBSes carrying the
| | anime conference. I was on RelayNet about two weeks ago to confirm many
| | of the BBSes that are still listed and add a couple of new ones.
| |
| | FishNet is a new network that started in Virginia and is now
| | spreading. They are looking for people who would like to carry their
| | Anime Conference. Ralph Jenkins is the moderator.
| |
| | CNet... well, I don't know much about this network at all. Antony
| | Hernandez moderates the Anime Conference and as I recall it is a network
| | of commodore computers.
| |
| | INTERNET/USENET are interconneCted in some way that I can not
| | comprehend. I would like to find more BBSes that have a feed and get
| | rec.arts.anime, rec.arts.manga or fj.animation. It's important to
| | mention whether that BBS requires a subscription cost our not as many
| | private BBSes that carry INTERNET/USENET do.

| | As promised I said I would do a top ten list of BBSes that have a
| | anime file area. The list however is uncomplete since there was a less
| | than enthusiastic response. I'm disappointed becasuse this list does
| | not entirely represent what is available on some of the various *ANIME
| | DEDICATED* BBSes in terms of MEGS of GIFS vs TEXT files, and we all know
| | how GIF files are MEG hogs. This list does represent the total MEGS of
| | anime files.

| | In order to complete this list I had to go back to some very old
| | information that I had so that makes this list very dated. But to those
| | of you who keep up with the various anime BBSes that are out there you
| | will notice that some very prominent anime BBSes such as: NUL, Robotech
| | BBS, CYBERWEB (aka Anime Lane), Area 88, Mystic Order BBS and Bionca's
| | Toy are missing. Three of these anime BBSes could shake up the order
| | quite easily.

| | To qualify as a *ANIME DEDICATED* BBS only requires that you have a
| | anime conference and file area on your BBS. So if you would like your
| | BBS to be listed with the *ANIME DEDICATED* note in the comment column
| | just send e-mail to one of my net addresses at the end of this list.
| | Also, I would like to ask that all the BBSes in the TOP TEN list resend
| | me the information on the amount MEGS of GIF and TEXT files they have
| | available by the end of December. The new TOP TEN list will include
| | GIFS vs. TEXT.

| | Many sysops have been sending me e-mail to say that they've been
| | getting many new callers who have told them that they found out about
| | their BBS because of the National ANIME BBS WATCH. This really makes
| | me feel good about compiling this list every three months. Belive me,
| | it's not as easy as some may think. Most of the time I have to cajole
| | information out of people. I still call various anime SIG BBSes to let
| | them know that the NABW is out there. Again, the response is less then
| | enthuasiastic to my inquires for more information, and those of you who
| | are reading this know who you are. Since eleCtronic information can be
| | transmitted very quickly I ask that you take a small amount of your time
| | to respond before January when the next edition of the NABW will be
| | distributed. The NABW7 will have the new format that will include the
| | information that some sysops and users have been asking me to include.
| | I would also like to include more articles in the NABW concerning how
| | some of the *ANIME DEDICATED* BBSes got started or even quips or quotes
| | of users on various BBSes.
