  37. This is the third update of the canine rescue organizations list.  Breed 
  38. specific organizations are listed first and all-breed organizations
  39. are at the end.  All the lines that are preceeded with a "||" are the
  40. ones containing either new information or important corrections with
  41. respect to version 1.50.  Also, Kathryn Whitworth has placed the
  42. whole of the rescue FAQ's in Word Perfect 5.1 format and has graciously
  43. allowed me to tell you to email her at kathryn_whitworth@ccmail.radian.com
  44. to get a copy of it.  It is in Helvetica font and runs about 22 pages 
  45. long.  Thanks Kathryn.  All the rec.pets.dogs FAQ's are also mirrored at 
  46. nowaksg.chem.nd.edu and can be found in the /pub/dogs-faq directory via
  47. anonymous ftp.

  49. THANKS TO THOSE WHO DESERVE IT:
  50.   Susan Mudgett and Eric Johansson have been keeping a list of 
  51. New England Rescue Organizations for quite some time.  They 
  52. graciously sent me a hard copy of their list so that I could include 
  53. all of those addresses and phone numbers in this listing.  If you wish 
  54. to contact them directly concerning the New England area specifically,
  55. they have listed their phone number in their own CRL (canine rescue list):
  56. 508-667-0137.  Many thanks to Susan and Eric.

  58. Secondly, Marget Johnson sent me so much stuff she had to include
  59. extra postage on the envelope.  Most of the information Marget
  60. provided me has been submitted to various dog related journals so
  61. this information may be available in your local library as well.

  64. Thirdly, Colleen Englemann sent me a listing of rescue organizations
  65. from the "Bay Area".  I am not from California but I have been told that
  66. this means the San Francisco Bay area, so if you live near there these
  67. listings are for you.  I have included the text "baylist" by these because 
  68. many of them are just phone numbers without the name of the person.  
  69. This doesn't mean you shouldn't call, I just don't know what the name 
  70. of the person you will talk to is.  If you do call and get a name then 
  71. let me know so I can include it here.

  73. Fourthly, although all of those I have talked to have encouraged me
  74. to finish this list one person in particular seemed to be very 
  75. interested and has kept me in good spirits.  Suzanne Sims and her
  76. dog Min are always such a joy to talk to so I wanted to thank them
  77. as well.

  79. Cindy Tittle Moore (those of you who read r.p.d. regularly
  80. know her well) has been of great help both at the beginning and the
  81. end of this project.  Her expertise in FAQ's for rec.pets.dogs is
  82. greatly appreciated.

  85. him and thanks to Kathryn Whitworth for typesetting these files in WP5.1

  88. This list is for the dogs, literally :-)  All of the poor animals that 
  89. have been abandoned for whatever reasons.  So many of you are caring 
  90. people and take these dogs in and care for them until they can find kind
  91. caring homes where they really belong.  I believe there is a home for 
  92. all dogs and I hope a few dogs can find those homes through my meager 
  93. efforts.

  96. I have no experience with any of these groups.  I have no experience with
  97. rescuing a dog.  I simply wanted to make this list available to you.  So, 
  98. I must say that I am not specifically endorsing any of these people/groups
  99. but I am endorsing the idea of rescuing a dog for a pet.

  119. If you notice I have left out someone in your favorite breed then
  120. please tell me.  If I have included someone that no longer serves in
  121. this capacity tell me so I can delete them from the list.  Otherwise
  122. keep this packed away in your files somewhere and pull it out when
  123. someone asks you about getting a new dog.  Rescues can be such good
  124. pets for so many people so don't automatically assume everyone needs
  125. a puppy.  (You may find the best puppy here as well!)
