What is this "Animaniacs" show?
-------------------------------
"Animaniacs" is a brand new cartoon from Steven Spielberg/Amblin
Entertainment, Warner Brothers and Fox Television, the same group that
brought you "Tiny Toon Adventures". Many of the people that worked on
TTA (Sherri Stoner, Paul Rugg, Tress MacNeille, etc.) are working on
Animaniacs.
Animaniacs, unlike the Tiny Toon Adventures episode of a similar name, does
NOT end with an exclamation point (!). Animaniacs is in no obvious way
related to "Animaniacs!".
Topical Information:
--------------------
The Animaniacs FTP site is alive and well again! The new official site for
related images is garfield.catt.ncsu.edu.
There is a new binary newsgroup for the distribution of cartoon related
images: alt.binaries.pictures.cartoons
Rhino Records has recently released an Animaniacs CD and tape, however there
have been many complaints about the low signal level. If you're not
the least bit an audiophile or you are a Fan this is a must have.
Reminder: If your music store does not have it in stock, don't be afraid
to ask if it can be ordered! Music stores _are_ in the business of
selling music.
Articles from alt.tv.animaniacs are available from utpapa.ph.utexas.edu by
FTP. They are in the directory /pub/animaniacs/articles/today, and
/pub/animaniacs/articles/old.
The former Animaniacs FTP site (utpapa.ph.utexas.edu) is no longer accepting
or distributing Animaniacs sound or image files which have been taken
(digitized) from the show. Fan artwork (and fan singing I would suppose),
scripts, and lyrics are still welcome.
Animaniacs first aired on Monday, Sept 13th 1993 on Fox in what used to be
the TTA time-slot. A full season of 65 episodes (+/- those lost to
or recovered from the jaws of the censors, BS&P) is in the process of
being aired on Fox television and its afiliated stations.
If you are attached to the 'net, you can get lyrics via finger:
ywarner@pegasus.astro.utoronto.ca - Yakko's World
The lead cast of Animaniacs is visible in the overhead shot in the
credits where they are arranged in a circular formation: (Left->Right)
Back Row: Chicken Boo, Ralph (Guard), Minerva Mink, Newt (?) (dog)
3rd Row: Hello Nurse, Bobby, Squit, Pesto, Marita, Flavio, Mime
2nd Row: Thaddeus Plotz, Runt, Rita, Skippy, The Brain, Slappy Squirrel,
Pinky, Buttons, Mindy, Dr. Otto Scratchansniff
Front Row: Yakko, Wakko, Dot
Unpopular Subjects:
-------------------
The line in the theme song is "pay or play" and it has been verified by
Sally Smith who has contacted more than one Warner Bros. Animation
director. Many people have found that it sounded like "pay for play"
but this is because there is some orchestra noise in the background.
Others have debated the logic behind the statement "pay-or-play", but
it is a real type of contract that has been around for many years. It
means that the holder of the contract will get paid wether or not their
show is shown. It is a Good Thing. This subject has been beaten into the
ground to just below the mantle.
There is no official standard abbreviation for Animaniacs. Many have been
proposed but few have caught on. You are welcome to use one of your own
creation.
Frequently Requested Lyrics:
----------------------------
Animaniacs theme:
It's time for Animaniacs, and we're zany to the max.
So just sit back and relax - you'll laugh till you collapse,
For Animaniacs!
Come join the Warner brothers and the Warner sister Dot,
Just for fun we run around the Warner movie lot.
They lock us in the tower whenever we get caught,
But we break loose and then vamoose and now you know the plot!
We're Animaniacs. Dot is cute and Yakko yaks.
Wakko packs away the snacks while Bill Clinton plays the sax,
We're Animaniacs!
Meet Pinky and the Brain who want to rule the universe,
Goodfeathers flock together, Slappy whacks them with her purse.
Buttons chases Mindy, while Rita sings a verse,
The writers flipped, we have no script, why bother to rehearse?
We're Animaniacs. We have pay-or-play(+) contracts,
We're zany to the max, there's baloney in our slacks,
We're Ani-maney, totally insane-y, {here's the show's name-ee} (*)
Animaniacs! Those are the facts.
(*) This line changes every show.
(+) As verified by Sally Smith.

And for those who are not fluent in Japanese, here's Yakko's short conversation
with Mr. Kato:
Yakko: Tokyo wa tottemo omoshiroi tokoro desu ne?
- Tokyo is an extremely interesting place, isn't it.
Investor: Zehi irasshite kudasai.
- By all means, please visit.
Yakko: Mada iki basho ga areba ne.
- If there's still room for me there, eh?
(Yakko's last remark appears to be an in-joke among Tokyo natives,
referring to the crowded conditions.)

The Warners:
------------
The Warners are not to be confused with the Two Tones. Here's a few
reasons if you still have any doubts:
The Warners:
* live in the Warner Brothers water tower
* are not a recognizable species
* have distinct ears and non-bushy tails
* wear coloured clothing
* are not black and white (Warners have red noses!)
* are zany
* are out of control
The Two Tones (Foxy & Roxy):
* Live in Two Tone Town, a suburb of Acme Acres
* are foxes
* have fox-like ears
* were "drawn in shades of gray"
* are generally predictable
* are usually quiet
The Warners do not fall into any general species category. They are not dogs,
cats, llamas, puppy-children, or even skunks. A complicated explanation is
that they are styled after the 1930's characters which were not meant to
be any species at all, only a humanized `inkblot' of sorts. If you want
the simple explanation, they're Warners (or just plain cute). One thing's
for sure: the Warners are very good at irritating people in the show.
