  28.         "Baywatch" looks at the personal and 
  29. professional lives of the dedicated men and women who 
  30. patrol the Southern California shoreline -- which is 
  31. of special significance to Greg Bonann, who is a Los 
  32. Angeles County Lifeguard in addition to being a 
  33. creator and executive producer for the series. 
  34.         "Working each weekend as a lifeguard 
  35. constantly reinforces the tremendous potential and 
  36. scope that the series can encompass," says Bonann. 
  37.         His own real-life experiences includes an 
  38. incident a couple of years ago at Venice Beach where 
  39. he rescued a drowning boy. Bonann and a staff of 
  40. writers were conducting research for the series at 
  41. Lifeguard Division Headquarters when a youth ran up to 
  42. them screaming, "My brother's drowning!" Bonann ran to 
  43. the water's edge, dove into the ocean and swam 200 
  44. yards to reach the boy. It took three dives to the 
  45. ocean floor to search for and recover the unconscious 
  46. 13-year-old. The producer then performed 
  47. mouth-to-mouth resuscitation while treading water, and 
  48. succeeded in reviving the boy. Bonann was honored with 
  49. the Medal of Valor for his heroic rescue effort. 
  50.         "Incidents like this only serve to reinforce 
  51. my belief in the richness that 'Baywatch' can bring to 
  52. television. It's our intention to capture that belief 
  53. -- through the realistic portrayal of dramatic 
  54. situations that lifeguards encounter on a daily basis 
  55. and, very importantly, through the creation of good, 
  56. solid characters," says Bonann. 
  57.         Bonann has been a Los Angeles County lifeguard 
  58. since 1970; a member of International Competition Team 
  59. Tours to Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and 
  60. Hawaii; and a co-organizer and former president of the 
  61. Los Angeles County Lifeguard Association. 
  62.         Prior to and during co-creating and 
  63. co-producing "Baywatch," Bonann served as the 
  64. producer/director for the United States Olympic 
  65. Committee's Official Summer and Winter Games Films of 
  66. 1980, 1984 and 1988. 
  67.         From 1977-87, Bonann was vice president of 
  68. development and production for JJH Productions where 
  69. he produced and developed more than 60 documentaries 
  70. shot worldwide, including the award-winning 
  71. mini-series "Saudi Arabia" and "Africa."

  83.         Partners and first-cousins Michael Berk and 
  84. Douglas Schwartz wrote and produced a dozen television 
  85. movies before creating the hit series "Baywatch." 
  86.         Among their most significant accomplishments 
  87. are "The Incredible Journey of Dr. Meg Laurel" (CBS), 
  88. the highest rated movie for television of the year 
  89. with a 42 share; "The Ordeal of Dr. Mudd" (CBS), which 
  90. received two Emmy Awards; and "The Haunting Passion" 
  91. (NBC), winner of the Venice Film Festival Award. 
  92.         Berk and Schwartz were the creators and 
  93. executive producers of the innovative and critically 
  94. acclaimed CBS series, "The Wizard." 
  95.         Their prolific partnership began at 
  96. 13-years-old, when they wrote, produced and directed a 
  97. short film entitled "The Lost Battalion" using an 8mm 
  98. movie camera. A CBS executive saw it in a screening in 
  99. the boys' backyard theatre, bought the picture for 
  100. $5,000 and aired it nationally. By the time they were 
  101. 18-years-old, Berk and Schwartz were running a 
  102. production company comprised entirely of teenagers and 
  103. occupying an entire floor of a Hollywood highrise. 
  104.         Now in their for-ties, Berk and Schwartz 
  105. continue doing what they have loved to do since 
  106. childhood -- use their creativity and determination to 
  107. craft quality entertainment. The resurrection of 
  108. "Baywatch" from its network run, and its unprecedented 
  109. transition into a highly rated domestic and 
  110. international success, is a model of production 
  111. efficiency that has defined new standards in the 
  112. industry.

  125. A minor earthquake prompts a geological survey team to 
  126. come to Baywatch to plant a seismometer in an 
  127. underwater fault line near Malibu Beach. When 
  128. Stephanie falls for the team leader, her life, as well 
  129. as Hobie's, Jackie's and many others hang in the 
  130. balance as the area is hit by a massive earthquake.

  132.         After a minor earthquake traumatizes CJ, a 
  133. geological survey team arrives at Baywatch in order to 
  134. place an underwater seismometer in the Malibu fault. 
  135. The team requires a safety officer, and Stephanie 
  136. volunteers, mainly because she has fallen for the team 
  137. leader Riley Ferguson, an expert oceanographer and 
  138. free-diver. She invites Riley to her apartment to 
  139. discuss the details of the operation, but their 
  140. budding romance is cut short when her sister, 
  141. Caroline, shows up without warning. Caroline has left 
  142. her husband and has come to California to start a new 
  143. life.

  145.         Hobie has a surprise of his own, when he tells 
  146. Mitch he has decided to spend more time with his rock 
  147. band rather than continue with Junior Lifeguards. When 
  148. Mitch tries to reason with Hobie, he snaps back, 
  149. telling Mitch that he doesn't want to follow in his 
  150. father's footsteps. Meanwhile, Jackie Quinn has sold 
  151. her cafe to a new owner and she and Summer are leaving 
  152. California. After Summer flies home, Jackie will then 
  153. drive their trailer back after spending one more night 
  154. parked on a cliff overlooking the ocean. Back on the 
  155. beach, Matt is having real problems with new lifeguard 
  156. Logan Fowler, who is from Australia on a lifeguard 
  157. exchange program. With his long hair and hot-dog ways, 
  158. Logan infuriates Matt, who thinks Loan is concerned 
  159. more with his own cocky heroism than with the safety 
  160. of potential victims.

  162.         Early the next morning, Riley, Stephanie, and 
  163. the geological team are at sea to plant the 
  164. seismometer. However, when Riley is underwater 
  165. installing the device, the area is hit by a massive 
  166. earthquake, threatening everyone s life. Riley is 
  167. trapped underwater, CJ and Caroline's apartment 
  168. collapses, Jackie is caught in her trailer which is 
  169. hanging precariously over the edge of a cliff, and 
  170. Hobie is trapped under the rubble of a partially 
  171. collapsed garage. The remaining Baywatch lifeguards 
  172. must spring into action quickly to save them and other 
  173. earthquake victims.

  203. After a massive earthquake hits the Los Angeles area, 
  204. the Baywatch lifeguards spring into action to save 
  205. trapped victims, including Hobie, Jackie Quinn, 
  206. Stephanie, and members of a geological survey team. 
  207.  
  208.         While Stephanie is off the coast of Malibu 
  209. with a geological survey team that is planting an 
  210. underwater seismometer in the Malibu fault, the entire 
  211. area is suddenly hit by an enormous earthquake 
  212. measuring 7.2 on the Richter Scale. Riley, the team 
  213. leader, is trapped underwater, but his isn't the only 
  214. life in danger. Stephanie and the rest of the team are 
  215. trapped at sea when their boat capsizes. Jackie Quinn 
  216. is caught in a trailer that could plunge off a cliff 
  217. at any moment, while Hobie is trapped under the rubble 
  218. of a partially collapsed garage. 
  219.  
  220.         Mitch manages to rescue Hobie Just before a 
  221. heavy boat engine falls on him, but Hobie is 
  222. traumatized and determined to leave California. 
  223. Rescuing Jackie and Riley proves to be more dangerous. 
  224. Jackie's trailer is precariously balanced on the edge 
  225. of a cliff, and there is no way to reach it by land, 
  226. since a landslide has blocked the highway leading 
  227. there. Mitch and Matt plan on scaling the cliff to 
  228. Jackie's trailer in order to reach her. However, the 
  229. sudden arrival of a news helicopter saves them 
  230. valuable time by airlifting them to the top, and with 
  231. the help of a heroic pilot, Mitch and Matt rescue 
  232. Jackie just before the car attached to the trailer 
  233. plunges to the rocks below in a huge fireball.

  235.         'Meanwhile, Stephanie risks her life by 
  236. free-driving to Riley, who is trapped under the 
  237. surface. She tries to release him from the rocks which 
  238. have trapped him, and almost drowns in the process. CJ 
  239. and Logan arrive with a rescue team, and CJ manages to 
  240. save Stephanie and free Riley just before he runs out 
  241. of air. On the surface, Logan cuts a deal with one of 
  242. the geologists, offering to also retrieve their 
  243. computer... for a price. However, this could get Logan 
  244. sent back to Australia for good.

  277. Mitch and his ex-wife Gail decide to get remarried, 
  278. but their wedding is jeopardized when Mitch leaves to 
  279. rescue victims of a boat explosion. Meanwhile, Logan 
  280. and Malt are at odds over Caroline. 
  281.  
  282.         After a recent earthquake which almost took 
  283. his life, Hobie leaves to live with his mother, 
  284. Mitch's ex-wife Gail, in Ohio. A few weeks later when 
  285. Mitch enters headquarters, he is surprised to see 
  286. Hobie at the soda machine. However, Mitch is even more 
  287. surprised to see Gail, who tells Mitch that their 
  288. separation has not been good for Hobie. Gail tells 
  289. Mitch that she wants to remarry him and start over. 
  290.  
  291.         Meanwhile, Matt and Logan get in an argument 
  292. over Caroline. Matt criticizes Logan for leaving 
  293. Caroline on a wave runner by herself when Logan 
  294. rescued a drowning victim. Logan responds by accusing 
  295. Matt of being jealous that Caroline and he are 
  296. spending time together. This leads to heated words, 
  297. and a right hook from Logan's fist to Matt's jaw. When 
  298. Stephanie hears of this, she makes Matt and Logan row 
  299. a dory back to the beach from far offshore, forcing 
  300. them to learn how to work together, which they must do 
  301. to rescue two drowning boys. 
  302.  
  303.         The day finally arrives for Mitch and Gall's 
  304. wedding. Everything goes smoothly, but just when they 
  305. are to exchange vows, a charter fishing boat strikes 
  306. an old mine. The huge explosion causes the boat to 
  307. sink, threatening the lives of everyone abroad. To 
  308. Gail's chagrin, Mitch rushes from the ceremony along 
  309. with Matt, Logan, CJ, and Stephanie to rescue the 
  310. victims. Now, because of Mitch's all-encompassing 
  311. commitment to lifeguarding, their marriage hangs in 
  312. the balance.

  340. John Coil returns and convinces Matt to join him in 
  341. racing the Baha Run, the most grueling dune-buggy race 
  342. in Mexico. However, Mitch is unaware of John's plan to 
  343. use their dune buggy to smuggle ancient artifacts 
  344. across the boarder. 
  345.  
  346.         John Cort was a former lifeguard who had to 
  347. leave Baywatch because he suffered from RP, a 
  348. degenerative eye disease that causes gradual 
  349. blindness. When Mitch enters headquarters one morning, 
  350. he is shocked to see Cort sitting at his desk. Cort 
  351. convinces Mitch to race with him in the Baha Run, the 
  352. most dangerous dune buggy race of its kind. 
  353.  
  354.         Cort hasn't told Mitch the whole truth. Cort 
  355. is desperate to buy a sailboat and sail away before he 
  356. completely loses his eyesight. To do this, he plans to 
  357. smuggle some rare Mayan artifacts across the Mexican 
  358. boarder in the dune buggy they will use in the race. 
  359. However, the artifacts' former owner, Jake, will stop 
  360. at nothing to get them back. 
  361.  
  362.         Back at Baywatch, CJ must deal with the final 
  363. chapter in her relationship with Cort, while Logan and 
  364. Matt aggressively compete to win Caroline. In Baha, 
  365. Jake enters the race so he can follow Cort and Mitch 
  366. to steal the artifacts. He tries to run them off the 
  367. road. But Mitch figures out what is going on, and 
  368. fights back to stay alive, and keep himself and Cort 
  369. out of a Mexican jail.
