  132.   Eastern Conference teams will play five games against each of six 
  133. divisional opponents (30); four games against each of the seven teams in 
  134. the conference's other division (28) and two games against each of the 12 
  135. Western Conference members (24).

  137.   Western Conference teams will play six games against each of five 
  138. divisional opponents (30); four games against each of the six teams in the 
  139. conference's other division (24) and two games against each of the 14 
  140. Eastern Conference clubs (28).

  142.   Playoffs: The system will be conference-based, with the No. 1 team 
  143. meeting the No. 8 team in the first round, No. 2 vs. No. 7, No. 3 vs. No. 
  144. 6 and No. 4 vs. No. 5. Matchups will be based on overall points with the 
  145. four division champions being placed in the first- or second-place seeds 
  146. in each conference and being assured of home-ice in the first two playoff 
  147. rounds. All series will be best of seven (2-2-1-1-1 rotation) except 
  148. matchups between Central and Pacific teams.  Those series will rotate 2-3-
  149. 2 to reduce travel.  In those cases, the team with the most regular-season 
  150. points will choose whether to start the series at home or away.

  262. feasibility of building a new sports and entertainment arena and to have a 
  263. general design drafted. The study by architects, engineers and financial 
  264. analysts will look at a $184 million complex proposed by a group of 
  265. business and city officials. A majority of council members have said they 
  266. would rather build a new arena than renovate or expand Reunion Arena, 
  267. currently used by both the Dallas Mavericks of the NBA and the Dallas 
  268. Stars of the NHL.

  298. An injunction preventing Edmonton owner Peter Pocklington from moving the 
  299. Oilers was upheld Tuesday, February 22, by the Alberta Court of Appeal. 
  300. The injunction, granted last December by Alberta Chief Justice Kenneth 
  301. Moore, prevents the Oilers from playing home games anywhere except 
  302. Northlands Coliseum and prohibits Pocklington from negotiating a possible 
  303. move. Pocklington has threatened to move the five-time Stanley Cup 
  304. champions -- possibly to Minneapolis -- unless he gets a sweeter lease 
  305. deal with Edmonton Northlands, the non-profit organization that runs the 
  306. arena where the team plays.

  308. Edmonton Oilers owner Peter Pocklington missed a deadline Monday, May 16, 
  309. in a financial deal considered central to keeping the NHL team in the 
  310. city. Pocklington was required to deliver letters of credit worth $4 
  311. million to the city and $1.25 million to the community board that operates 
  312. the Northlands Coliseum, where the Oilers play. Neither letter arrived. 
  313. Instead, Pocklington produced a letter from Ogden Foods, which promised to 
  314. provide a $4 million letter of credit if the company and Pocklington reach 
  315. a deal by June 1 on the concessions and management of the Coliseum and a 
  316. new ballpark also included in the deal. Mayor Jan Reimer said council was 
  317. disappointed in the letter from Ogden, which is based in New York. But she 
  318. said there has been too much put into the deal with Pocklington to call it 
  319. quits now. This latest deal would see $14 million spent improving the 
  320. 17,503-seat Northlands Coliseum, which opened more than 20 years ago. A 
  321. total of $23 million would be spent on the Coliseum and a new ballpark for 
  322. the Edmonton Trappers of the Class AAA Pacific Coast League. The agreement 
  323. on a new ballpark was an integral part of the deal and would keep both 
  324. teams in the Alberta capital for at least 10 years.

  339. didn't vote on the issue.

  441. and replaced with a new arena-convention center complex, according to a 
  442. state Senate commission. A report released by the Senate Majority 
  443. Commission for the Development of Sports and Entertainment Facilities said 
  444. Nassau County's wealth and population could support a new 20,000-seat 
  445. arena and an adjacent convention center. The new complex would be built on 
  446. the site of the 17,000-seat Nassau Coliseum, which opened in 1972. The 
  447. report makes no mention of how the estimated $120 million project would be 
  448. paid for.

  690.   Hartford has been selected as the site for the 1994 entry draft. The 
  691. draft is scheduled for June 28-29 at the Civic Center Arena. The first two 
  692. rounds will be held Tuesday night, June 28, starting a 7:30 p.m. EDT. The 
  693. remaining rounds will take place on Wednesday starting at noon EDT. Unlike 
  694. past years, the draft will be conducted separately from the annual league 
  695. meetings. The annual meetings will be scheduled for another location and 
  696. time.

  698.   The 1995 draft will be held in Winnipeg.  The 1996 draft will be held in 
  699. St. Louis.

  701.   The NHL Thursday, March 24, adopted a lottery for its annual entry 
  702. draft, beginning with the 1995 draft.
  703.   The 1994 draft is unaffected. By virtue of a coin flip last year, the 
  704. Florida Panthers will draft first, the Anaheim Mighty Ducks will draft 
  705. second and the rest of the league will draft in reverse order of the final 
  706. standings.  But in 1995, the 10 non-playoff teams will be put into the 
  707. draw.
  708.   A complicated system ensures that the team with the fewest points ends 
  709. up with a 30 percent chance of getting the first overall pick and is 
  710. guaranteed of picking no lower than second.  Whatever team is drawn can 
  711. move up by no more than four positions in the draft. Therefore, only the 
  712. five worst teams have a chance at picking first. If one of the second-, 
  713. third-, fourth- or fifth-worst teams win the draw to pick first, the last-
  714. place team will pick second.
  715.   If the sixth-worst team is drawn first, it moves up four places and 
  716. picks second. The first pick would then go to the worst team.  Likewise, 
  717. if the 10th-worst team is drawn first, it would pick sixth. The first 
  718. pick, again, would go to the worst team.
  719.   Under the weighted-draw system for non-playoff teams only, the team with 
  720. the fewest points has a 30 percent chance of being drawn; the team with 
  721. the second-fewest has a 21 percent chance; and the team with the third-
  722. fewest points has a 15.1 percent chance.  The team with the fourth-fewest 
  723. points has a 10.9 percent chance; the team with the fifth-fewest points 
  724. has an 8 percent chance; the team with the sixth-fewest points has a 5.9
