  47. being.  Various battles ensue as daemons try to destroy mankind.  -AN

  58. powers.  She fights a whole series of super villianesses lead by this one

  60. familiar?).  The manga is definitely violent, sexy, and pretty outrageous
  61. in parts.  The anime is toned down substantially.  -GF

  65.   It's about this baby who was brought to our world by an oni (ogre).
  66. A childless couple, who happened to be praying at a shrine for a child,
  67. takes the baby from the oni and adopts him.  When he grows up (high school),
  68. he begins to have doubs whether or not he is human or oni.  There always
  69. seems to be a mysterious force helping him which appears to be an invisible
  70. oni.  Anyway, soon a mysterious cult of oni worshippers target him because
  71. they believe he is the incarnation of Shuten Douji who, in their hiearchy of
  72. gods, is the lightbringer or disrupter of darkness.  Lots of battles,
  73. graphic violence, mysticism, tying in with folklore, eventual time travel,
  74. dimensional travel, and very interesting plot twists.  -AN

  86.   Hannape's life is interrupted by two demons. One is this green cloaked
  87. male being with a bazooka.  The other is a female furry being with a tail,
  88. which projects her magic. Among the things that occur is that Hannape is
  89. cursed with his index finger resembling a sexual organ and any time it is
  90. pointed at a female (humanoids at least), they become sexually aroused.
  91. As you might guess, it gets fairly extreme. It is amazing that despite the
  92. fact that he has not really changed his drawing style that much, he still
  93. manages to convey a sense of sexual vouyerism.  -NA

  143. manga cliches, and there is a subplot concerning the other students -
  144. Junko Fujieda, who can't stand perverts, they make her violent; and
  145. Murata, a masochist who's infatuated with her. -IS

  181.   This is a cute manga about highschool life. Chitose has to change to a
  182. poorer school due to the death of her rich father. But the business of her
  183. father had collapsed, and the only thing she got is a pink (!) goldfish
  184. (that can fly).  She met Wapiko, Shu and Aoi in her new school, but soon knew
  185. that the poor school is too poor to continue its operation. Accidentally, she
  186. got several billions of dollars left in the bank by her father, and she
  187. re-built the poor school. The manga is full of funny cute stuff. Animals
  188. walking around, and face changes from time to time. Very funny, and popular
  189. in Japan.

  206.   Nozomi Witches used to be the number one serial on YJ during its peak
  207. around 89-90.  During its beginning (vol. 1-5) it concentrated on this
  208. young, talent, ex-actress high school girl who return from New Zealand,
  209. and she met her next door neighbor Ryotaro.  (The 15 year old male lead
  210. of this story.)  The next phase of this series is around vol 6-17, with
  211. the main emphasis shifting from Nozomi to Ryotaro as he tries to qualify
  212. for the Seoul Olympics.
  213.   From vol. 18 on, is the current phase of this manga (which Nobe called
  214. Book II), It's about Ryotaro's pro boxing life, and the parallel life of his
  215. boxing friend/enemy/understander Yugo Fukuyama.  At this stage the 
  216. drama side of the story is almost non-existent, and there is really no 
  217. suspense between Nozomi and Ryotaro.  Character designs also changed.   -CPK

  235.   This is a sequel to Kujaku-Oh, which brought a second occult boom
  236. to Japanese manga scene. Kujaku-Oh became more of an Epic Occult Saga
  237. after a few volumes, but this sequel is back to the "Demon Hunt" style
  238. that the original Kujaku-Oh was intended to be.
  239.   Kujaku is a buddhist monk who belongs to Ura-Kouya, a secret
  240. organization within the Shingon Sect of Buddhism, sole purpose of
  241. which is to destroy demons/monsters. Kujaku was born with the power of
  242. Kujaku-Myouou (Mayuri Vidya-raja, also referred to as Lucifer in some
  243. occult books) which he uses to fight the forces of evil. He's supposed
  244. to have lost his Kujaku-Oh power when he and his twin sister (The Beast of
  245. 666) neutralized each other, but he again used power of Kujaku-Oh in Vol.3
  246. of Taimaseiden.
  247.   The world of Kujaku-oh is filled with religions, mythology, gods,
  248. demons, monsters, powerful sorcerers/priests. If you like this kind of
  249. stuff, Kujaku-Oh will fill all your needs.  However, good knowledge of
  250. religion/mythology is required for full enjoyment of this manga.  -TK

  254.   Mao is the name Kuukai (The founder of Shingon Sect and Kouyasan)
  255. used when he was young. Being enraged by the corrupted nobles and society,
  256. Mao quits the college and becomes a rebel (sort of Robin Hood type) but
  257. got captured by a general named Saknoueno Tamuramaro. While being
  258. tortured, he's visted by a mysterious Bosatsu (Boddhisattva) who
  259. gave a revelation regarding the "True Path." After the encounter, Mao
  260. sets on a journey to find the one who can be his mentor.  The manga adds
  261. lots of Ogino's creative imaginations to the historical facts.   -TK

  294.   In 2023, the teenage delinquent Kaneda rides the streets of Neo-Tokyo.
  295. Kaneda's unstable friend, Tetsuo, is the subject of a secret military
  296. experiment which continues the work of the Akira project -- a project
  297. which accidentally started WWIII years before.  Tetsuo's new psychic powers
  298. lead to the revival of Akira, and Akira destroys Neo-Tokyo in a moment of
  299. fury.  While Tetsuo carves an empire out of the ensuing chaos, his enemies --
  300. Kaneda, other psychics, and the US military -- prepare to take him out.
  301. But Tetsuo's powers are increasing, and his ability to control them is
  302. decreasing...
  303.   AKIRA is a special phenomenon, partly because of the huge success of
  304. the movie, and the popularity of Western adaptations.  However, Japanese
  305. readers lost interest towards the end of the manga, and the final volume
  306. (whose ending slightly expanded on the original) took nearly three
  307. years to be published.

  319. when there is an exodus back to Earth.  This manga is a story of Sarah's
  320. efforts to be reunited with her children.  The art is very polished, but
  321. the story is cliched and excessively grim.

  333. and thoughtful piece.
  334.   The manga is pretty scrappy, but the OAV is a nice piece of work (for which
  335. Otomo only did the mecha designs).  Character designs were by Eguchi Hisashi,
  336. the artist of "Age".

  403. somewhat similar to Yokoyama Mitsuteru's later years.  Excellent combat
  404. sequences and drama.  Multiple sub-combats (kind of unrealistic now I know
  405. more about it, but it was great when I was a kid), funky looking subs,
  406. interesting weapon systems.
  407.   He predates Matsumoto Reiji, who became synonymous with mech-battle manga
  408. in 70s.  Ozawa writes better looking humans though.  I was deeply disappointed
  409. when neither show made it onto the TV.  Perhaps some enterprising person will
  410. make an OAV.  Better than the Red October!  -SA

  438.   Saruwatari perfected his technique with this manga.  The story is probably
  439. the best he's worked with; elements from Riki-Oh turn up in all his later
  440. works.  The live-action movie is somewhat nauseating, and remains one of the
  441. few unclassified Hongkong films.  Vol.12 has the short story "N.Y. Dust",
  442. which was the prototype for The Hard.
  443.   Takajo Masahiko, the author, has also written Hon Ran (^[$B9HO5^[(B) and

  900.  are intelligent, mature and expertly told, and have lost none of their
  901.  impact.

  993. the money, just get out of your terminal immediately and go get

  1076. Very silly, but lots of fun.  This series also metamorphed into Dragon Ball Z,
  1077. which has the same manga name as the original.  Most of the character

  1080. for his unique artwork and designs... and the story is pretty good if

  1084. like Dr Slump in the beginning--I liked Dr Slump, but I was expecting
  1085. something more different. One thing I love about the DB is watching
  1086. Gokuu grow up and I actually liked that "enemy character even stronger
  1087. than the last" thing. I think though, that Toriyama should have ended it
  1088. after the Freeza battle. I mean, Freeza was the strongest in the
  1089. universe and Gokuu beat him. (Vegeeta was supposed to be the strongest
  1090. when he first appeared but I kinda figure that was just his ego talking)
  1091. After that, what can you do? The cyborgs and Sel (Cel?) are a real

  1256. because 1) it came in the "TK manga leasing program" package, 2) somebody had 
  1257. asked a long time ago whether if a manga about computer networks exists, and 
  1258. 3) it makes a nice warm-up for the other Yano Kentaro titles .... -DM

  1263.   Like his other work I just mentioned above, the Demon Legend stories are
  1264. very loosely connected.  There are no regular characters except the four Demon 
  1265. Gods, which probably weren't Yano's creation anyway (The man is obviously 
  1266. heavily inspired by H.P. Lovecraft).  This is not a drawback, however, as the 
  1267. lack of regulars gives the author the freedom to create/kill-off his 
  1268. characters, and thus a real sense of danger for them.  One of the short 
  1269. stories, Dark Mermaid, stands out as a particular masterpiece (It was 
  1270. reprinted in Family Comics).  The rest of the stories are no less interesting 
  1271. either.  There are occasions, however, when a plot twist seems artificial 
  1272. just to achieve convenient dramatic effects.  Yano also employs a liberal 
  1273. amount of female nudities during important scenes - just so to keep your 
  1274. attention on the page, although explicit sex never occured in this manga.  
  1275. Given the kind of people who reads Comic Nora, however, these tactics are 
  1276. useful and often necessary, and therefore not a problem with me.  Yano seems 
  1277. to possess a lot of creativity, even though he seems to have trouble focusing 
  1278. it.  Coherent or not, Yano's stories can still be very involving.  This is 
  1279. another series I would recommend manga lovers to look into.  -DM

  1345. Yokoyama into a big name.

  1352. basically about a group of ninjas who are in the shogun's employ and they
  1353. fight other ninjas who are working for rebellious factions.

  1361. series around the same time (kind of stupid with lots of monsters, but I
  1362. liked it).  Remade into an anime in the late 80s.

  1366. an espionage story concerning the BF group who made 3 giant robots GR1, 2 and

  1368. They lose GR1 and story gets complex after that.  Made into a live action TV
  1369. series 'Susume Gianto Robo' which was silly.  Now being remade into an anime
  1370. OAV with more original style story and characters.

  1427. Metropolitan Police Department has established a special department, the
  1428. "Special Vehicle Section No.2".  It consists of a company of patrol
  1429. "LABOR" known as PATLABOR.
  1430.   Compared to the anime, the manga version focuses more on character
  1431. development and jokes are more subtle. Manga also deals with many social,
