  6. The Alexandrinsky Theater building is one of the 
  7. outstanding samples of Russian Classicism. Its 
  8. main facade facing |Nevsky Prospekt|Custom1|O:267|, plays the 
  9. main part in the |ensemble of the square|Custom1|O:117|. The 
  10. rusticated walls of the ground floor serve as a 
  11. kind of a socle for the majestic colonnades 
  12. decorating the facades. The six-column 
  13. colonnade of the main facade stands out clearly 
  14. against the wall placed further backwards. The 
  15. traditional protruding classical portico is here 
  16. replaced with an impressive loggia. Sculpture 
  17. plays the major part in the facade decoration. 
  18. The semicircular niches hold the figures of the 
  19. Muses-Terpsichore and Melpomene. The attic 
  20. decorated with the figures of the Glories is 
  21. crowned with Apollo's carriage that was chased 
  22. from sheet copper to a model by S.Pimenov. In 
  23. sculptural decoration of the building V.Demuth- 
  24. Malinovsky and A.Triscorni also took part.
