  4. The monument to Catherine the Great was put 
  5. up in the public garden in front of the 
  6. Alexandrinsky Theater in 1873. The statue stands 
  7. on a high figured pedestal made of gray polished 
  8. Serdobolsk granite. The figures of outstanding 
  9. Russian statesmen of the second half of the 19th 
  10. century surround the pedestal, including those of 
  11. G.Potiomkin- Tavrichesky, A.Orlov, 
  12. A.Bezborodko, I.Betskoi, Ye.Dashkova, 
  13. A.Suvorov, P.Rumiantsev-Zadunaisky, 
  14. G.Derzhavin, V.Chichagov, and many others. The 
  15. socle of the pedestal carries a plaque with a 
  16. dedication inscription decorated with emblems of 
  17. Science, Arts and Law.
