1873. Sculptor M.Mikeshin
The monument to Catherine the Great was put
up in the public garden in front of the
Alexandrinsky Theater in 1873. The statue stands
on a high figured pedestal made of gray polished
Serdobolsk granite. The figures of outstanding
Russian statesmen of the second half of the 19th
century surround the pedestal, including those of
G.Potiomkin- Tavrichesky, A.Orlov,
A.Bezborodko, I.Betskoi, Ye.Dashkova,
A.Suvorov, P.Rumiantsev-Zadunaisky,
G.Derzhavin, V.Chichagov, and many others. The
socle of the pedestal carries a plaque with a
dedication inscription decorated with emblems of
Science, Arts and Law.
