- First wooden circuses appeared in Russia in the
- early 19th century. The first stationary stone
- circus was built in 1877 on the initiative of
- G.Cineselli, who was the head of the circus
- family on tour in Petersburg. The architect took
- into consideration a specific nature of a circus
- performance; it had a spherical cupola and a
- manege, 13m in diameter.In 1928 a unique
- Museum of the Circus Art began to function
- here, the number of the exhibits being more than
