- The building occupies a large area between
- Sadovaya Street, |Nevsky Prospekt|Custom1|O:267|, and
- Lomonosov Street. It is a rectangular two-story
- structure with a big inner courtyard. The facades
- are about one kilometer long along the
- perimeter. The building consists of numerous
- similar arcades.The corners are cut off and
- decorated with a kind of porticoes. The main
- entrance facing |Nevsky Prospekt|Custom1|O:267| is also marked
- out with a portico. At the top, all along the
- perimeter runs a light balustrade.The building is
- strictly classical in its outline. Construction went
- on for 24 years and was completed in 1785. The
- building became a model for the similar type of
- structures in provinces. In the late 19th century it
- was redecorated to a design by A.Benois.
