- In the 1790s the mansion for Countess
- Vorontsova was erected on the Fontanka near
- the |Anichkov Bridge|Custom1|O:47|. In the early 19th century
- her house was bought by the Court
- Ober-Jagdtmeister D.Naryshkin.In 1821-22 he
- added an attachment to the building which
- housed a large dancing-hall decorated with
- reliefs devoted to the subjects of the Trojan War
- and plafonds painted by D.Scotti, as well as the
- ômuseumö room.In the 1820s Naryshkin's Palace
- was a place well known in Petersburg. The balls
- and receptions there were attended by the flower
- of the society. The palace was frequented by
- P.Viazemsky, V.Zhukovsky, A.Pushkin and
- others.In 1918 the Museum of the Mode of Life
- was opened here. In 1925 the rich Shuvalov's
- collections were transferred to the Hermitage
- and other museums.
