- In terms of its layout the Razumovsky Palace
- belongs to the few remaining country-estates in
- the city, dating back to the first half of the 18th
- century, which were typically erected in the back
- of the lots and had regular gardens. Stylistically
- it is a sample of the transition period from
- Baroque to Classicism. In the 1730s B.Rastrelli
- built a wooden palace for Count Levenvolde on
- the site. In the 1760s it was dismantled and the
- construction of a new, stone palace, was started
- to a design by A.Kokorinov, followed by
- J.-B.Vallin de la Mothe. The palace underwent a
- number of reconstructions. It acquired its
- present appearance in 1831-34. The central part
- of the building, dominating the whole
- composition, is characteristically emphasized,
- whereas the whole ensemble with its lateral
- wings is symmetrical in its layout. In the
- sculptural decoration of the facade finely outlined
- bas-reliefs are predominant. Of interest is the
