- residence. Through the lock yachts brought
- guests to the palace.
- From the terrace in front of the palace a sloping
- path leads to the opposite side of the park, to
- another cascade of fountains, known as Chess
- Mountain.
- the powerful fountains on a large square in front
- of the Chess Mountain are called Rome. From
- the square with the Rome Fountains a narrow
- lane leads to the Piramid Fountain. Not far from
- here is the Sun Fountain with 16 bronze gilded
- dolphins.
- The fountain artisans did their best to make the
- Petergof parks places of beauty and
- entertainment. In the dense shade of trees
- bordering the Gulf of Finland, stands an elegant
- one-story building - the beloved small palace of
- Peter the First ( 1722, architects I. Braunstein,
- A. Leblond, N. Micchetti ). It is called
- Monplaisir, French for "my pleasure". This cozy
- building was meant for intimate receptions and
- parties with close friends. The Marley Palace (
- 1723, I. Braunstein ) stands on the bank of
- large rectangular pond. The Lower Park has its
- own Hermitage ( 1724, I. Braunstein ).
