- In 1837 a wooden building of the first Russian
- railway station was erected in Petersburg. In the
- same year the first train in Russia covered the
- distance between Petersburg to Tsarskoye Selo.
- In 1849-52 the first stone station building was put
- up (architect K.Thon). The present station is
- designed in Art-Nouveau style. The asymmetrical
- structure is spanned with an original glass
- cupola. The decoration of this utility building
- includes a clock tower, large semicircular
- windows and ornamental bas-reliefs.
