- In the 18th century the site of the present church
- got the name of the Dvortsovaya (Palace)
- settlement. Land was allotted here to court
- officials. The church built here played a major
- part in the urban design. Not only does the
- building anchor Zagorodny Prospekt vista and
- represent a dominant point in the whole district
- built up with apartment houses; it has also lead
- to redesigning adjacent areas and gave rise to a
- new square (Vladimirskaya Square).The
- five-dome church designed in Baroque continues
- the traditions laid down by Rastrelli and
- Chevakinsky. Similar to |St.Nicholas Cathedral|Custom1|O:58|, it
- has two stories. The vestibule with staircases
- leading into the second story is a link between
- the main volume and the refectory. It was
- erected in the 19th century and is a typical
- sample of classical architecture.In the upper
- church a carved iconostasis has been preserved,
- which is one of the most interesting samples of
