  6.  The palace-and-park ensemble in Yelaghin 
  7. Island took shape in the second half of the 18th 
  8. century-early 19th century. The focus of the 
  9. ensemble is the Yelaghin Palace (the first palace 
  10. has originally been built for I.Yelaghin in 1785). 
  11. The two-story stone palace, that stands on an 
  12. elevated terrace provided with a roundabout 
  13. platform and monumental staircases, is topped 
  14. with a low dome and decorated with a graceful 
  15. semi-rotunda. This is the first important work by 
  16. C. Rossi performed in Petersburg.
