The palace-and-park ensemble in Yelaghin
Island took shape in the second half of the 18th
century-early 19th century. The focus of the
ensemble is the Yelaghin Palace (the first palace
has originally been built for I.Yelaghin in 1785).
The two-story stone palace, that stands on an
elevated terrace provided with a roundabout
platform and monumental staircases, is topped
with a low dome and decorated with a graceful
semi-rotunda. This is the first important work by
C. Rossi performed in Petersburg.
