Moika Embankment, 94
1760s. Architect J.-B. Vallin de la Mothe. Rebuilt
in the 1830s, architect A.Mikhailov the 2nd.
In 1760 another story was added to the original
small two-story house and it was enlarged. The
center of the main fasade is marked out by a
six-column portico that united the two
lower stories; the third story remained an attic. In
the course of the following reconstruction a wing
was added to the old house parallel to the
embankment; it contained gala halls of striking
grandeur.Since 1830 the palace was owned by
Prince N.Yusupov, one of the richest men in
Russia. On the night of December 17, 1916, the
monarchist conspirators killed G. Rasputin here.
